What is your oil & filter choice?

Hello all, Just curious as to what everyone's oil and filter preference is? I am not sure if I have one at the moment, as I am trying to find what works. Currently I'm running Rotella T6 and a PureOne filter. Doing good thus far!

2.5L on mine gets a Fram filter and whatever 5-30 or 10-30 oil is cheap.

Run this combo on 9 engines without issue. The engines in our 1977 boat went until last year before being rebuilt. And they only got rebuilt because the boat sank in its slip and the engines didn't run to well after lol.

I always run Rotella 15-40 in all of my Jeeps, with no issues all except the 4 banger has 200,000-300,00 miles. Napa gold filters are usually what I get, I also change oil/filter every 5,000 miles.
I service the differientials every 30-40,000 miles

Seems like the 15w40 is really popular in Jeeps now. I have the 5w40 in mine because of the cold here in Ohio. No issues with startup at all. Jeep runs super quiet. I have the 2.5L. Maybe the 15w40 will be good once it warms up. I've been looking at the Chevron Delo.

Mobil lubricants only.
I've worked for Exxon for 13 years, down stream lubricant and petroleum specialties.
That being said, I'm also a cheap ass. I have to but my oil just like everyone else. Quality is never cheap.

Always wanted to do Mobil in my Jeeps. However, all Mobil oils cause excessive iron wear in 2.5 & 4.0 engines. There are enough UOA's to show. No one can figure it out. Even Mobil didn't comment in one if the question and answer sessions.

Maybe I can try delvac 15w40 and then do a UOA, and see what the results were.

The good ol' 2.5L, doesn't burn any oil either that little thing is pretty tough for how old it is. I always changed the oil at 3,000 miles, sometimes even 2,500 depending on what season it was.

Now I change it at the beginning of every Spring, since it's not my DD and it sits most of the year, I only put 550 miles on it since last Spring haha. This Spring I'm gonna try some of that SeaFoam stuff for the first time, hopefully that won't jinx my high-mileage streak.

Yeah subtract one quart and in it's place use a bottle of Lucas oil stabilizer and you will notice it quiets it down, so that's three regular 10w-30 and one quart of Lucas and she all last you a charm , my 95 Volkswagen Jetta 2.0L I had 200,000k plus on it and never had a problem running the same oil stabilizer from Lucas , wish I still had the car but got totaled front end collision of county school bus made me happy .... dance

All Lucus oil stabilizer does is thicken oil. You do not need that with the Rotella or Delo oils. They are HDEO oils, and are already plenty thick.

Buy one jug of Shell Rotella T6 at WM for 21.00, or one Jug of Chevron Delo 400Le 5w40 at WM for 19.00 an call it a day. The Delo is in a silver jug. In the summer if it is warm were you live, you can do the 15w40, and do the 5w40 in the winter.

I would stick with 5w40. And it's Heavy Duty Engine Oil. It's a dual rated oil. You technically could run the 5w40 year round since the starting TBN is so high, and these oils are more shear resistant. They will handle fuel dilution a little better also.

I got 10W-40 in mine.

Had some recent noise in my valve train but I haven't had a chance to check things out.
I hold 40-50 psi steady.

It's a heavy duty engine oil. It is made for gasoline engines also. If that is too much, you may want to look into a Castrol oil. Castrol oils are on the thicker side.
