What to get a Dana 44 out of?

What is the best vehicle to get a Dana 44 out of that will fit right into my 95 Wrangler? Do these come with a standard 4:11 gear ratio? any and all info would be helpfull.

I pulled my front and rear out of a 1987 grand waggon. Many things you will have to change; brake lines, out put yoke will be dif, spring perches, shock mounts, track bar mounts, and E-brake cables, and gearing. Most, if I can remember do not have the 4.11 gears. You can get a dana 44 out of a later XJ but its a light duty dana 44, and not very many people know that but there is a huge dif in size between the two.

Watch out for the grand waggys with the AMC 20's in the rear.

I would go with the ford 8.8 out of an explorer. Most of the D44 will be wider and hard to find. You can find an 8.8 with 4.10 gears I don't think you will find any D44 that will bolt up without some welding. The 8.8 has the same bolt pattern as your jeep, so you can reuse your wheels

most definitely. i put an 8.8 in my previous yj. picked it up for 300 bucks. was out of a wrecked 98 explorer. i ran 35's with zero issues. you'll also appreciate the disk brakes back there too.

What about pulling my rear end out and putting the 8.8 in? Do they hook up the same, similar? Any replacing of parts, moving anything, etc?

you'll have to move the spring perches, rig up something for your e-brake, and get a flange yoke adaptor for the driveshaft.
