what transmission do i need?

So my wrangler just had the sync rows fall off inside the transmission, i took it to two shops and they both said 1400-2000 for a rebuild. now, i know i have a AX 15 and i dont like it, mainly because 1st gear is to long, its not like the tj i used to have (in 1st gear you might get to 5mph!!). so now i need to replace it, so what should i do?

I want a NV3550 but im not sure if it would fit, so what is the best idea? rebuild it, replace it with teh NV or buy another ax 15 and put it in myself? im pretty good with sockets and all, i just dont have a transmission jack, im pretty sure i have everything else tho. anyone have any ideas?

I say go with the nv 3550 as its a great transmission and has the deeper first gear. I believe its just an all around better transmission. My cousin used to be a shop foreman at a jeep dealership and he says its the best tranny ever put in a jeep.

I don't think they're should be much modification needed. Tge reason I say this is because advanced adapters sell a conversion kit to replave the ba 10/5 in my 87 with the 3550 and say its the same dimensions as my current tranny. The only mods needed may be some adapters, your best bet would probably be to just call up advanced adapters and ask them or do some research on novak-adapt.com, as they have a great knowledge section.
