Vacuum leak or the girls in the car next to you think your Jeep is cute.

Raise the hood see if it does it in neutral in the driveway. Then you can try to isolate it better. Usually associated with a vacuum leak. Hose coming unified or cracked.

Could be a clogged CAT as well but most likely a vac leak as suggested. Pop open the hood and rev it and listen to see if you can find the source. Look for any open ports on the manifold or obvious cracked/broken lines. Our YJs are getting old, it may need a little attention on the rubber parts. Check it out and get back with us.

Check your air filter housing for cracks.

Mine whistles too, but inconsistently. Sounds like a tea pot whistle, but can't figure out where it's coming from. I'm thinking air intake since it usually happens when I'm on the throttle.

i have a 95 too that sounds like it has the same issue. it doesn't always make the sound, but when it does it seems like its happening when i'm on the gas. and it doesn't seem like it's causing anything wrong mechanically..

Electrical feedback from the power boost when the alt speeds up?

It did it again today but it was when I let off the gas, it's not the radio like others have said. Not sure what it is. I'm thinking maybe there's a gap on my air box or something.

2 things to check.... Fan clutch and belt.

Check the fan clutch by grabbing and shaking it. It should have no play (motor off)

Check the belt by running a bar of soap in the ribs and seeing if the noise goes away

Tighten up the intake manifold bolts. I had the same whistle. Checked everything under the sun. Tightened up the intake manifold bolts. Whistling is gone.

The whistling on the "radio" is due to electrical noise from charging circuit. Usually varies with speed of engine. Place a "noise filter" across the incoming power lines to radio. Can purchase one anywhere you get automotive audio components.

I was whisltling again today and it's throttle related. When I got on it it went away, holding steady it would whistle a little, then letting off the gas it would be louder. If it's air intake shouldn't it be louder on the throttle? Also my exhaust leak has grown (below the flange from the header to down pipe). Could the whistling be part of the leak? I just got a new header today, but waiting for the downpipe to come in from ebay, so I'll install it next weekend sometime.

I think I found out what was whistling. I was working on exhaust today and did the throttle body changeout to the 4.0L big bore and noticed the 2.5L gasket was completely gone.

Had the same issue. Sounded like a turbo. In sync with my rev's. Idler pulley. Simple fix.
