Wierd noises!!

93 yj. 2.5 having alot of odd loud noises in 1st 3rd 5th gears.
2nd aint to bad and none at all in 4th.
Noise is kinda hard to explain it just started out of the blue other day.i have no issues shifting or driving it around....
Its almost like metal rubbing maybe...
I doubt anybody would be able to help me with this with out hearing...but guess its worth a try.

ALSO THERE IS NO NOISES WHEN I ENGAGE THE CLUTCH.

if the noise goes away when you push the clutch in, it sounds like your input shaft in the transmission. Basically time for a new transmission. I just went through this and what originally was supposed to be a $900 bearings and synchros replacement ended up being $1600 for a complete rebuild. Transmission shops suck

X2, if its not that it really sounds drive shaft related. Even the wrong size transfer case lowering kit will cause this

ugh, sorry brother but a rattling can of marbles sound without your clutch engaged would be the input shaft bearing in the transmission going out. If it was just vibrations, then I would suspect the driveshaft. Hopefully it's only the transmission mount, but prepare yourself for transmission work

No noise when clutch is being used or when foot off the gas while in gear.

So i had it checked out at our local earl brothers yesterday...says a bearing is out inside transmission. Part of the input shaft he said i think.
Does this require the whole tranny being rebuilt or jus changeing out the bearings that are out.
Thanks
Jus trying not to spend alot if money on this.
Currently lookin for any trannys for sale to swap it out.

Hi Wavey- I think I have the exact same thing on my 93 YJ. It just started today in 5th gear. I get a noise while trying to accelerate in 1, 2, 3, and 5th gears. When I let off the gas, the grinding/noise goes away. Were you ever able to figure out what the problem was? Thanks.
