Winch mounting question

I have a Quadratec 9000 winch mounted on a winch plate. I am trying to lighten it up just a little because even though I have new OME front springs, I lose about an inch of lift with the winch on, and the Jeep is nose heavy driving. I am going to replace the steel cable with synthetic line to save about 20 pounds. My question is this, can I lose the winch plate and mount the winch directly to the bumper? The bumper is attached to the frame with 4 grade 8 bolts. I'm not sure that is enough....here's some pics.

Think about the loads that will be put on the winch you won't always be doing a pull straightforard. That is why they mount them on a plate. Its all about engineering. I would think that you may loose the structural integrity if you only maounted to the frame and might actually stress it or bend it. You have to make some sacrifice everytime you mod a Jeep and yes I understand the loss of clearance is an issue. May want to just invest in some 1" boomerang shackles to help out and that would be the max to overcome loss of lift for the weight.

No way you can mount it without the plate. Adjust height with shackles.

Update.....changed out the steel cable and fairlead for a synthetic line and aluminum fairlead. Dropped about 30 pounds. Much better!!!
