windshield bracket mount torx screws striped

I was putting on windshield light mounting brackets for my Hella fogs I just bought and some of the windsheild torx screws rounded off, now I can't unscrew them. I got 3 of 4 out of the driver side and 2 of 4 on the passenger side. I mounted the brackets with the screws provided and they are going anywhere. But I do want to eventually get the other screws out...any suggestions?

i had the same problem so i just took a nut and sit it on there and welded it in the center and it will allow you to remove it

Or if you, like most people, don't have a welder handy, you can soak them with PL, dirll out the centre and use an easy out. Drilling is a pain though, make sure you keep the bit in the middle of the old bolt.

This just happened to me and my brother when we were doing a body lift on his truck. What we did is we took a grinder and made a slit in the middle of the bolt to accept a flat head screwdriver and used a flat head bit in a impact wrench

I worked in a body shop for 25 years and what we would do when a torx headed bolt would strip is get an allen wrench socket close to the same size and pound it into the hole. This will usually catch enough to get the bolt out after spraying it down with a penetrating lubricant.

I had the exact same thing happen to me when putting up my light mounts as well. It was a bitch! fortunately I only stripped out one of the screws and could still use my light mounts without that one screw so I just left it anyway. However, that said, I was still able to get enough grip with my impact wrench that it didn't slip when hammering the heck out of it, and the screw didn't turn at all.

Ah well.
