Windshield seal

Okay, so the "monsoon" season is upon us now, and I have a leak. It drips from behind my dashboard onto both sides of the tunnel. I looked at the windshield seal and there is supposed to be a small metal strip where the seal ends meet. Mine's gone. What's it called, can I get one without buying the entire seal, and would this stop my problem?
Thanx in advance. This is a good board.
Oh, 89 Sahara, hardtop.

When we replaced Skeeter's windshield, we didn't have a metal strip. We just sealed the whole thing with black silicone sealant. Works great, no leaks.

How far east of Salem are you? I grew up in Dayton and spent a lot of time around Salem.

I'm in Macleay (hence the name!) about 6 miles east of Salem. I was looking at the seals today and it might be the seal underneath my windshield frame. I just don't know for sure. When it leaks inside, it seems to come mainly from under the dash right about where my left leg (clutch) is, and the stock speaker grills are wet. It's leaking a lot today.

Okay, I looked and it seems to be leaking thru the seal at the bottom of the windshield frame. How difficult is this, and where is a good place to get one?

Replacing the seal is a pain in the butt, you have to remove the entire windshield.
You may be able to simply clean up under the edges of the old seal and then squirt in some black rtv sealant. make sure and clean up any excess right away.

The short bus is nice... U do need a sticker of some1 licking the window though!!!

Back on topic:

Its not that hard to take the windshield off. I put mine back on last night. 2 ppl 20mins. The seal is held on w/philps self tapers and comes off in 45 seconds (w/ a drill) The hard part is getting the shield back up ALL THE WAY so that the tops fit and the doors line up. I want to hook my winch through a system of pullies under the jeep and on2 the windshield to pull her up tight.
Alas, I may need to ask 4 the help of my wife.

Anyway water in a YJ is a common thing, let it ride.

Ahhh, oops, I thought he was talking about the actual windshield seal.

Back to licking.
