Wont start when sits for 30 min or so .

88yj weber 32/3? 4.2
Starts fine when sits overnight or even 2 weeks . I just pump a few times .
Yet after its warmed up and cold outside , if it sits for 20 or longer it won't start . I can crank ..... Nothing . I've tried not pumping .. Then pumping notta . I've cranked not pumping till battery is dead .
Had mech adjust carb, choke and still same thing .

My 89with 4.2 will flood out if you touch the foot pedal after its been running.when I forget I have to hold pedal to the floor and crank for a few seconds and it fires right up. My carb is a new rebuild and puts a good stream of fuel in the throat . Too easy to flood.

Ya . I've tried that thinking it was flooded , yet didn't work .

I was told a few min ago that my choke cools off and a warm engine is the reason .
Dunno yet been stranded now for 4 hours waiting on ride . Or I could wait till morning and it should start up

Run a compression check, sounds like when hot or warm compression is too low to start.

Had my buddy pull me to top of a hill .
Pop started yet it took a few tries , like 6 .
Each time almost . Real rich gas smell from exhaust . That was after sitting 5 hours .
Ethonal ?? Last week when was warmer it didn't do this and all summer .

Compression ? Like above suggested .
Does start when sitting for a day or longer . And in warm weather .

I was thinking when hot the block expands and could have blow by and low compression, but if pop started and smells rich gas then I guess it the Carb.

With the lousy gasoline these days, any carb problem is made worse. If you have the time, run the engine till good and hot, shut it off and remove air cleaner. Watch and see if you see any vapor in the carb or heavy smell of gas. From what you describe it sounds like the carb is leaking internally.
