Would bad sending unit gasket on the gastank cause rough idle?

I got slightly rough idle in my 89 wrangler 4.2. I do know the gas tank seal is bad. I am wondering if that is causing a vacuum leak and resulting in rough idle?

A slightly rough idle could be a number of things from vacuum, carb, fuel, etc. Could a bad gasket on the fuel tank cause it. I think it might be something else. Maybe you need a tune up. That gasket should be replaced anyway. Are you leaking fuel?

No, a leak at the sending unit gasket will not cause it to idle rough.

I have an '89 too.

Do you have the stock carb and ignition? The stock carb is a POS!! Stock ignition is just as bad. Makes a big difference as to where we start to getting the engine to run better.

So; what are we working with?
