My temp gauge reads the to is good but the radiator and hood is very hot to the touch after about 10 min of driving? Is this normal? Other forums have said this is normal but I have a hard time believing that. I don't think it used to be like that until I changed my water pump

If the temp gauge reads 195-210 its OK. Don't forget there is no insulation on these hoods. On the water pump, did you install the pump with the correct rotation?
210 is 2 degrees from boiling so its gonna be hot and yes my YJ would be throwing heat before I went one mile....

Not sure which engine you have, but I have a 1990 I6. This engine has different water pumps with respect to rotation depending on if you have AC or not. Are you sure you installed the correct pump?

Positive. Almost got the reverse pump but we got the standard one which is the right one. I just figured if it was overheating the gauge would say so... I know it works
