YJ 1989 2.5 l4

Hi all,

First post on this forum. Yay for me Hi for all of you!

I bought my Jeep about 3 years back. Did not ride it a lot. It came to me from Germany where it was raped by the local laws (emission, lights, safety). The poor thing was equipped with some ugly JohnDeere lights and such. Since I want to restore it to full glory I started to do some modifications.

Now that I moved away some problems that kept the car sitting in the garage works commences .

Thus I have some questions, I think my Jeep ran into some common problems that are normal for its age:

1. Stalling - Carb replacement is a must I guess. I did not find any information for replacement carbs for the l4 2.5 liter, since l6 is the standard here (no plans to change it thought). Does MotorCraft do any specific carbs for that engine? Will a MC 2100 fit mine?

2. General parts replacement - some problems with suspension - where can I find parts in shops (like a leaf spring, mine is cracked)

Just one note here. I'm from Poland and when I phoned in to a local dealer they asked me if it was a diesel. The stock carb here is sold for about $1000. So I will be looking for dealers that ship oversees, worst case scenario I will get someone to reship it from the US.

Hope I wont get screamed at for this post

You certainly won't get screamed at here.
Welcome to Wrangler forum.
I'm afraid I can't help you with locating the parts but I'm sure someone will be along shortly who can.

Great to hear

I really dont know what are my options with the TBI Carb. I think I label it wrong as a carb even . The house is not on fire, I'm not going anywhere. This forum seems great, and it looks like people actually know what they are writing about

Is it carbureted, or throttle body injection? pictures might help.

For the springs, I'd get an aftermarket lift kit unless you really want to stay stock.
If you do want to stay stock there's probably a few people running around here with old springs.

YJ 1989 2.5 l4

Hello irontom,
I also have a 89 YJ w/2.5 I4 and it is a throttle body injection setup.
Had trouble with mine with stalling, and it turned out being the fuel
pressure regulator on the top inside of the throttle body injection unit.
Since I replaced the regulator, I have had no problems. Some Dealers
have the code reader that plugs into the 89 2.5 to find out what the
problem might be.
To change it out, you would have to change your computer and all
wiring, as well as intake manifold. I decided to repair the TBI, cost less,
have no problems and get 19 MPG highway.

welcome to the forum. you'd probably be best to purchase all new leaf springs. replacing one may be problematic seeing as it won't be worn the same. its a great time for a lift kit. or you can buy stock replacements.

i have old leaf springs about to go to the scrap yard on monday, but they are worn out. thats most likely what you will run into, used worn out springs.

good luck.

How does the thing look like? I am worried about the amount of dirt I see when I take off the air inlet.

As for pictures, same as this one, plus some warning labels in german
