need more info than hash shifting, which gear is harsh, what speed is shift points, whats the history on the transmission ( new project, had it for years)... in general a harsh shift is high line pressure or a solenoid sticking, cable out of adjustment..

What's the fluid look like? Last time it was changed? Sometimes a new filter and fluid will work.

Ive had it since i was 16. Now im 21 It sat for two years while i was living in Chile. It got drove once a month while i was gone. I changed the fluid in 2008. Before that the problem started. It has a hard time shifting from 2 to 3 and it will go into like a neutral and rev up to about 3500 to 4200 rpms stay there for maybe 3 sec and then shift. The fluid looked good. But im wondering if it has to do with my idle rpms and or my throttle cable linkage and or the gearshift linkage. That enough?

you will need to take to a transmission shop, look for one that is a A.T.R.A member. it wont be shift linkage, and if the fluid is red and doesnt stink then thats a good sign, when it "neutrals out" if its clutches it should generate heat and eventually change the color of the fluid. my guess is its inside the trans, since you caught it early it might just be a lip seal and no "hard parts" which will save you money. but a good shop should be able to drive it and tell you whats going on, most wont charge you. they might want to drop the pan which is ok, if they show you the pan there will be a round magnet with "fuzzy" fine metal on it, this is normal but large pieces that you can pick up (metal/or plastic) is not. i love these trannys and they are a great unit, how many miles is on the jeep..

I know it can be hard, I would take it down to a shop and see what they say.. I am a transmission builder but its hard to say whats wrong without looking at it. I will say if you continue to drive it will only get worst and will cost more money to fix. good luck
