YJ belt squeal..

Ok I have been having belt issues with my wrangler ever since I restored it. It has aftermarket air and the belts that go to the ac/alternator belts squeal when I start it up and last until the truck is warmed up. the belts are brand new and tight. the belts are V shaped my neighbors complain about it in the morning too so please help!

Try cleaning the pulleys. Make sure they are free from oils and paint. Might even need to take a file to them and make sure they are not glassy smooth.

I recently did my belts, water pump, radiator and hoses. After I buttoned it up I had some squeal from the alt belt too. Tried to tighten the belt a few times by loosening the tension bolt only and prying on the alt with a crow bar. Just couldn't get it tight. Then I loosened the alt mounting bolt all the way to the passenger side of the engine as well as the tension bolt . Got the bar in there and was able to get much more tension on the belt. Then i tightened the two bolts and squeal is gone. As a last resort give it a squirt of belt dressing, but that isn't really a fix. If its squealing more than likely the belt tension is off.

Possibly you have a coolant or oil leak that is getting on the belt?

Also, check to make sure the belt is not "bottoming out" in the pulley. Belts are NOT meant to touch the bottom of the pulley AND, if they do, will squeal.

no I don't have any leaks, I also did my water pump, thermostat and rad. I got the same belt from before but this on seems to squeal only when warming up. the belt does sit low in the ac pulley and ride high on the alt.
