Exclamation YJ Dash Pad Removal

I have a '95 YJ that has an aftermarket sound bar that doesn't put out the greatest sound levels. I decided to replace the stock speakers that no longer worked in the dash, and to do so, was told I needed to remove the dash. Everything went smooth until I got to the dash pad.

Several pinched fingers later, I now have broken what appears to be the dash pad and however the hell it connects to the front of the Jeep.

I am in the processing of purchasing a new dash pad, but before I go screwing this up again, could someone PLEASE Inform me the correct way to remove the dash pad? I have come to realize it is NOT by using two screw drivers to pry it apart from the part that appears to house the vents.

FYI, trying to get this fixed before the boyfriend gets home this week and yells at me for messing up my jeep again.

Instructions for removing the dash:

Fold down the windshield (yes you have to )
unscrew all the "screws" that hold in the plastic dash pieces, the gauges and such
unscrew all the screws that hold the dash "awning" to the metal dash support
Unbolt the torx bolts that hold the metal dash support to the body

if you want to completely remove the dash then you'll have to unplug all the wires and remove the steering wheel to pul it over the steering column

Thanks for your help.
I just ordered the new dash pad...hopefully it will get here in time for me to take this thing off-road (FOR THE FIRST TIME!) Friday.

Having some trouble taking the windshield off. Can't find a torx head to fit in the hinges. Any guess as to what size it might be?

I replaced my stock speakers without removing the dash. It was a pain but i think it was definatey faster than removing the dash. It's not that hard as long as your hands aren't huge.

The hinges don't use torx bolts, and you don't have o take the windshield off, just unbolt the roll bar supports and the 1 t40(I think) on each side and it will fold Down

My windshield uses torx bolts. I just went to Walmart and bought a set of torx sockets. Don't have to worry about the right size anymore.

Ended up being Torx bolts (T-35) for the Roll bar disconnect. Definitely learned my lesson, but at least I'm almost done getting this thing off-road ready! Thanks everyone for the help.

i tried to change the front dash speakers in my 92yj and i deemed it an impossible task.....so, i went to quadratec and bought one of those front speaker pods that mount in front of the stick shift in the middle of the floor. sounds great!

Any updates here? I'd be curious as to how things went.. and also I'm curious as to the time involved in dashboard removal (or say everything but taking apart the steering wheel)

On a 1990 Wrangler YJ, is it necessary to remove the windshield wipers to only fold the windshield forward?

Mine too about and hour to tear down. But only about 1-1/2 to go back. Biggest problem was getting the family bar extensions bolted back up to the top of the windshield! Ended up using a much longer bolt and a nut to pull them together until I could start the shorter torx bolts.

Nope. Motor assy and all are attached to the windshield frame.
