YJ Headlight swap

I was curious if anyone swapped out their headlights for h4 headlights. I tried to buy some on ebay a while back and they didn't fit and they sat in the garage while the motor was being rebuilt and someone knocked them over and shattered one Anyway has anyone bought headlights that didn't fit right? and if you bought ones that fit good where were they from? I can't stand the dim sealed beams even though I don't do much driving at night. Or would I be better off going with a driving light set up for aftermarket lights? Thanks guys!

I bought them. All chrome from ebay. I put back my sealed beams. Get some silverstar sealed beams, they are alot better! But if you still want some that fit I have some. Maybe an hour use. Pm me if interested.

What made you go to silverstars? Not a good beam?

Is your 89 in your pic with the snorkel? How'd you do that with the carburetor?

Lol no mine is a 95. And silverstars give you a good bright beam. The aftermarket h4 housings dont. They are really bright but the beam is really scattered.

I bought the hella h4 housing from 4wheelparts but they're not CA dot approved and they are a whole lot better compared to the stock seamed lights. Plus I like the HID lights. They look good.

I can't stand those super bright lights. They are great for the one driving but everyone else wants shoot the bulbs out.
I always feel like beaming them with my Daylighters when they drive towards me at night with those over-bright lights. Give them a taste of being blinded by an oncoming driver, but that would put me at that level and be even more unsafe.
I do really hate the new cars with those lights, the low beams are like high beams.
I have the Silverstars, and they are very good lights. I don't think I am blinding everyone I pass, I never get high beams flashed at me.
Ok rant over

Yeah I get that a lot..... but that is why I have 2 7inch HID off-road lights on the windshield and 2 on my bumper. But I only have cause I go to pismo/glamis dunes and use them at night.

Avoid the urge to go HID... Silverstars are plenty bright, if you want more from them you can rewire the headlights with a relay to give them more juice direct from the battery. All with out being an ass in the eyes of oncoming traffic.

I couldn't agree more. Also Wagner makes a similar light and can be purchased a little cheaper. I think NAPA carries them, and maybe other places

If you actually wheel your jeep dont get them. Its easy for water and crap to get inside and mess up the beam I agree with the previously stated some good silverstar sealed beams give out good light and water and crap wont get in them either. Jeep put them in for a reason.

I agree with silver stars. I get flashed with my xtravisions but they throw a wide swath of light to see both sides of the road.

And who cares if something is not dot approved unless u have safety inspections, even then its easy enough to swap out to the original light for the euros and swap back after the inspection. Most cops will not know a dot light from a non-dot light, I know a few Porsche 928s with the euro conversion lights and no one even looks twice at the lights...just the car.

Now we are getting mixed reviews lol nice. I don't mind being illegal personally cause the cops here aren't the brightest. I mean honestly headlights? There are better things to enforce imo

It is not about legal or not when it comes to HID lights in improper housings.... It is about safety. If you have HID's on the road, you are a hazard to other drivers as you temporarily blind every one you pass going the opposite way. Visibility with HID's is great, I have had them in a few imports in the past and loved them aside from ballasts not lasting more than 2 years. Now that I am older, I consider the effect they will have on other drivers. When there are safer alternatives that offer great visibility, there is no good reason to convert to HID's.

I wouldn't go hid honestly too expensive If anything just the xenon? I think its called. I think any hid is blinding. I would use them for off-road lights if I had the money lol. I am probably going to go silverstar just for the fact they are sealed so they don't get ruined if i get a little dirty lol. I completely understand your point though
