YJ quit

Friend of mine called with a problem. He cranked his jeep and went about 50 yards and it quit. Gauges and radio work but said it won't even "click" when you turn the key over. Stater was replaced not long ago. If he taps on the starter the solenoid will try to "click". What could be wrong? Is the starter in a bind?

If it just clicks and doesn't turn over I'd say a dead battery. Possibly caused by a bad alternator?

You can have enough juice for the accessories to work but not spin the starter.

What I thought also. Said he tried to boost it off and the solenoid still wouldn't click. I just talked to him and he did say starter made a noise when he cranked it and top bolt to starter is gone.

Put the top bolt back in and I'll bet it starts right up. Bad ground or in a bind from bolt missing.

One more thing. I'm trying to help him long distance. If that starter is in a bind or whatever it could kill that engine couldn't it?
