YJ shift boot conversion

Hey Fellas, new to the forum but have been a Jeep man for several years. I have a 1989 YJ that I am fixing up and need a shift boot.

I really like the looks of the CJ boot in the years previous to 87. Do you know if this boot would fit on my YJ with a little modification? I really like this better than the stock one for some reason, and I wonder how well the holes will line up for the sticks. The bolt holes are not a problem, I am a metalworker by trade and can take care of that.

Does this one need a retainer ring on top? That is something I dont have. Here is a pic of the boot I want to know about.

Also would be interested in seeing other conversions if anyone has done it.
Thanks
Tyler

Is there supposed to be a ring around it or no?

Thanks

Yes there will be a ring but if you work with metal it shouldn't be a problem just make one
