YJ Tire Carrier

If there is another thread for this, please direct me. I couldn't find it.

I'm getting new wheels and tires, but only have the stock tire carrier that is bolted directly to the body. Will this mount hold the weight of a 31"x10.50"x15" mud terrain tire? I don't want to screw anything up.

Any advice is appreciated.

Yes, but that's about the limit of the carrier/tailgate. You will have to either get a spacer for the mount, or cutdown/remove the 4 rubber bumpers on the tail gate.

Yes cut down, or space, the guy at the tire shop just sucked mind down with an impact and i didn't see it for a while, whent back and he said o-well they all are bent like that, it's just a jeep that's the way they all are.

I just did same thing, I kept the rubber spacers on tailgate, went to home depot and got 2ft of 2.5" x 3/4" redwood. Made two spacers out of them. Had to get longer bolts. I should have made one of the spacers 1/2" thick, as the top half of the tire does not rest on the rubber bumpers. The tire rubbed on my aftermarket tube bumper, so that naturally had to come off and make room for my new S/B rockcrawler bumper with hitch and d-rings.

Talking

I'm using my stock tire carrier 33"x12.50"x15" but it rattles. I'm thinking to fab my tire carrier soon.

Sounds like it's about time for a new bumper with swing out tire carrier!
