yj white smoke

Hello I have a 91 4.0l wrangler with white smoke. The auto trans fluid and engine fluids are full and new. The smoke is only noticible after hard driven on the hwy speed aprox 75mph, yet there is no smoke with local driving speed under 50 mph. Abot 1500 miles ago I had a complete exhaust replacement manifold to cat to muffler. Do the rear axel need fluid and how do I check or add it. Could it be the oversized tires on the 2" lift any suggestions thank

White smoke is trans fluid burning.
Oil will be either blue or black depending on how much is being burned.
Keep an eye on your trans fluid. check any vacuum lines going to the trans.

wtf? White smoke is Steam from water.... ATF is darker, more like oil but lighter colored.

Head gasket.

If you are worried about burning ATF, pull the vacuum connector off the tcase for the front diff actuator and see if there is ANY atf in the line, if so, replace the switch and the lines, but chances are 99-1 its your head gasket.

if the issue is white smoke from tailpipe, if its running hot, and possibly losing coolant... its definitely a head gasket.

Dealing with the same issue right now. If it just started doing this, you need to get it checked quick, the overheating could cause the head to warp or crack.

Just had the same problem on my '91 YJ it turned out to be a bad head gasket. Get it checked out before the head warps or possibly cracks.

Weirdest damage I've ever seen to an engine from catastrophic overheating... a Cherokee 4.0 owner had overheated and kept driving till it was almost glowing, and wouldn't run anymore. I found compression on the cylinders, in order from 1 to 6, to be 0psi, 20psi, 40psi, 60psi, 80psi, and 100psi. Exactly those numbers, as if the head gasket had started melting away perfectly from front to back. Bizarre. Guy towed it away so I never got to see what exactly happened.
