2009 So Cal WF Meet & Greet, March 27-29

We had an awesome gathering. We ended up with 9 WF members wheeling on Friday night and Saturday. It was an awesome group of people and I can say that I'm truly honored to have met them and had time to sit around the campfire and share a few adult beverages.

Friday night run: We headed out to an area in the Anza Borrego desert that has several mud caves. We ventured through one that stretched over a thousand feet and then came out into an open canyon. We continued on through the canyon until we hit a drop-off and had to turn back.

Saturday run: We spent about 8 hours on the trail taking 9 Jeeps through some of the most beautiful desert around. We went through the "Squeeze" and then down the famous (infamous?) Heart Attack Hill. There were several challenging spots that everyone made it through with minimal carnage. We were heading back to camp on the trail that led to the base of Diablo drop-off, our last challenge of the day. We came upon a H2 with a broken tie-rod that was blocking the trail. We easily climbed around it and continued on our way (after making sure they had a way out - two other vehicles, and plenty of water.) We got back and had a great pot luck dinner and then sat by the fire 'till after midnight.

Thank you to everyone who came out and participated. I thou rally enjoyed meeting and wheeling with each of you and I can't wait to get together and do it again.

Pictures coming soon...........

Some of us posted a couple pics over in the original planning thread...

2009 So Cal WF Meet & Greet Run - March 27-29

Cain coming down Heart Attack hill with Cavey lining up behind him...

Speaking of heart attacks. I didn't manage a picture of it, but Cain was taking Sarge up a pretty steep area and I really thought he was going ass over teakettle for a minute there. He sure does like to bounce them tires off the ground.

Great weekend, fun was had by all and we're already talking about where to have the next one.... so Pointy doesn't have to drive 9 hours.

I'm going to grab up pics from the other thread since if I move them they'll end up preempting Unlimited's original post...

Before a wildebeest came by and decided the camper wasn't positioned correctly for the solstice...

And here we see Wfer's in their natural environment...

I tried to snag a picture of everyone going through the squeeze...

Pointy..

Turd...

Cave...

Oh and even though I'm not done with the Squeeze pics here's Cain coming down Heart Attack hill...

Pictures just don't do justice to Heart Attack Hill, do they? It was cool standing at the bottom and seeing blue sky under and over the Jeeps as they staged at the top....

HAH was scary, but not as scary as I thought it was going to be. I had a blast and really wish I could have come out Friday for the night run with you all....

Friday night was amazing. We were at the back of the crew and the canyons were all lit up with the headlights of all the jeeps in front of us. I wish I'd have had my camera that night.

But at least the flashlights were charged.

Hey, who had what in the poker run? I had a flush and scored a camp table.

I had a pair of 10s, the worst hand of the night, but because of Pointy hooking me up, I ended up with a sweet pair of Mastercraft Grab Handles!! Thanks again, Rob.

You are correct, pictures do not do it justice. And hey, Cavey, you are the king of salads.

Cavey's salad was excellent!

I had two pair (9's and 8's which beat Pointy's 9's and 7's) for 4th place.

Got me a flashlight! It's CHARGED BABY!!

Keep it charged, it's the only way to be sure it'll keep working.

Larry, you and Debbie are going to have to have to come up the next time Brian and Judy meet Cain and I at the Beer and Wine Garden. Drunk dancing!!

Big Bear for sure. I'd like to get up there and get in some snowboarding before they can't make snow anymore, but I don't think this leg will let me this season. However, I won't know unless I try, huh?

As for wheeling, I'm in. I love Big Bear.
