I am interested in putting together a road trip to Death Valley. I'm thinking 2 days for travel to and from San Diego and 2-3 days exploring. I'm thinking Christmas vacation or Spring break perhaps. I'm thinking we should bring extra fuel. I'm thinking of towing a tent trailer or not,lol.... I'm thinking a group of 4 rigs would be ideal. I don't belong to a off road group so perhaps I should join one, lol. I wonder if I need a lift on my JK? Anyone ever do a Death Valley camping trip and can give any advice?

Thanks,

Gunner

Might do that some day. Ya should have taken the yota boys up to Roger's Pass into South Park, then brought them around through Mengal. That way they could have seen Butte Valley from both perspectives. Long day but what else ya got going on? Your in Death Valley.

My first trip to Death Valley was in the summer of '66 and I was driving a VW bug. I went on every little track I could find, camped out every night but one, had two flat tires, and had a great time. Second trip was in a Jeep in 2005, and it just wasn't the same. It's disappointing to be confined to established roads and trails, though I understand the logic behind it. I've been spoiled by three years in Saudi Arabia, where you could just pick a direction in the desert and go - never mind established roads. In the Empty Quarter there are no roads and no landmarks, just endless miles of shifting sand dunes, so you navigate with a compass or a GPS. There's no experience like that here in the US, and more's the pity.
