Ha!! Update, bought the axles today. I found a smokin deal on a D60 rear and a 44 front from a 79' F-150. Weird because F-150's had a 9" rear in those years so this 60 must have been swapped in it later on. I dont really care though, my dad got em; for me for my birthday. $100 for the both of them! Just gotta pull them this weekend. When I get them I will make a build page so I can stop hi jackin the thread (sorry guys). Anyway, now Im really excited to get these under it and head to KY. Makes me want to go even more.

Black Mountain Recreational Park Rules

This park operates, and everyone rides at his or her own risk under KRS 411.190. Know your limitations and do not exceed the capabilities of your vehicle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Helmets are required pursuant to KRS 189.515. Protective gear including, but not limited to those items listed by the manufacturer and the ATV Safety Institute are strongly recommended.

Consumption of Alcohol while or before operating a motorized vehicle is NOT permitted. No one is allowed to possess any illegal substances including, but not limited to, drugs and explosives within the park.

Litter laws are strictly enforced. Place litter in an appropriate trash receptacle or "Pack It In, Pack It Out."

There will be no toleration for fighting. Any violation of this rule will result in being banned from the property and possibly being arrested.

Do not remove or destroy trees, shrubs, plants or animals (except in approved hunting areas and approved hunting seasons). Further do not feed any animals including, but not limited to bears.

The park is neither liable nor responsible for damage, loss, or theft of personal property or injury to visitors.

Citizens Band Channel 3 & 4 will be the community channels.

All operator and passengers of cars, trucks, buggies, etc., designated for on or off road use must wear safety belts while vehicle is being operated. Infants and children must be restrained in legally required child safety seats.

All Off-Road Vehicle drivers and riders should follow the manufacture's safe operating procedures. Please be sure that your ORV has the appropriate equipment needed to operate on the rough terrain in the park.

An adult should supervise minors at all times.

Be courteous of other drivers and Park Employees on and off the trails.

All vehicles must operate in a manner to avoid incidents and/or accidents while in the park.

No glass containers are allowed at the park.

The Board must approve any new trails, outdoor fire areas, or camping/campsite areas.

All riders should use designated entrances.

All Vehicles must have front & rear lights if driving at night.

Vehicles attempting Level 5 trails must have a full roll cage and helmets.

Camping/Campsites must be in designated areas only.

Fires must be restricted to designated areas only.

Firewood used must be dead wood only.

The Board must approve all special events including vendors.

Pets should be kept on leash at all times.

Vehicles should travel in groups of 2 or more, except in emergency situations.

The terrain in constantly changing. Check each hill. Ride all trails with caution.

Stay within the boundaries of the park. Do not enter any property not owned by the park. Do not enter any posted areas that are not open by the park.

Tread lightly. All participants must stay on trails. Do not blaze new trails.

Non-operative vehicles should be moved to the side of the trails and attended to immediately.

Failure to comply with the above rules, regulations and safe operating procedures can result in fines, temporary or permanent banning from using the park or participating in any future park activities or events.

-These are all the rules that are posted on the site for Black Mountain so I ask that everyone just glance over them. Its pretty much common sense stuff. But there is a rule that says every event must be OK'ed by some type of Board. So I assume this is an event that would need their ok. I will email them in the next few days so that we dont have any kind of problems.

Figured everyone should know the proper rules for the outting. There are also some things that our vehicles should be equipped with, heres a quick run down:
-tow points front and rear(should be solidly mounted to the frame or bumper)
-a tow strap(at least 20ft, and it should also be rated for the appropriate weight)
-a small first aid kit(doesnt have to be major but it should include a variety of bandages, some neosporine, pain killers, gauze, a wrap, maybe some burn gel and/or peroxide. The basics)
-front and rear lights(if you plan on wheeling at night)
-a full size spare(this isnt absolutley necessary but its a very good idea to be prepared)
-a hi lift jack(again, not absolutlety necessary but you never know when you may need it and its better to have it than not)
-shackle(its a good idea to have at least one shackle because if someone is going to be winching you or you will be winching yourself it can be used in combination with a towsrap to prevent damage to a tree if its used as an anchor point)
-a rug or blanket(if your using a winch its important that you drape something like this over the line so that if it where to snap the line will fall to the ground rather than possibly injure someone badly or damage a vehicle or both)
-a CB or at least a cell phone to keep in contact or incase of emergency

These are the basics. There is a lot of other stuff you could and probably should carry with you. Just remeber to be ready for the occasion. If its going to be cold then bring a coat and blanket and such. Its also a great idea to keep a pare of boots with you as well as some leather gloves and a flashlight. Again, these are things you could get by without but why not bring it? again, just remember to pack smart and be ready for the occasion.

I might be a good idea for everyone to have a fire extinguisher in their rigs also. Some ORV parks require it

Yea, that is a good idea but again, Im not really sure its necessary. If a fire were to occur it would be great to have it but most fires I have seen in Jeep(few and far between) couldnt have been stopped by a standard fire extinguisher anyway. Especially not one of those smaller ones. But it would be wise for a just in case kind of situation.

Well, I'm out for this trip. Between my daughters HS graduation in June, mom coming to visit in June, dad coming to visit in July, daughter shipping to basic training in July, her graduation from BT in October and the fact that we will be driving both of our cars to work (20 miles one way for her, 15 for me) starting in June, and gas topping 3.50 a gallon now.....I just can't afford it. It's going to be bad enough driving two cars. Me personally, let the power grid fail, oil stop flowing and lets get back on our horses and just slow down. I'm just tired of it all. blah!

Damn Chris, that sucks, but I understand your situation. I am saving all my pennies for this trip as well. Also I have not been able to mod my jeep at all, decided to spend the tax return and buy a motorcycle, to help save on the cost of gas driving to and from work.

LMAO. Thats a fact. Knew I was gonna get a little heat too. But my dad talked me out of going crazy on my dd and instead just building an off road only rig. Cant really back out of this one though because I have everything but the frame/tub for it, but Im picking that up next week as well. Just as a teaser I will tell you it involves a bored 400cid motor w/ headers, C6 trans, welded full width axles, and lots of cutting on whats started out as a Jeep You'll be glad I changed my mind!

Im bringin both! Cant leave either of my babies behind, lol. I know Im gonna want to play with both. Haha, its crazy, there are about 3-4 deals just falling in my lap right now. This mourning I have a sale pending for a running 400 (so I wont have to rebuild mine and I can jsut sell it), a 4WD C6, a 2WD C6, and an np203 tcase all for $300. Then some guy wanted to trade me the axles Im selling (early 70's D60 and 44) for a front kinpin D60. And now I've got a cherokee chassis with no rust for $200 and a CJ7 frame w/ a YJ tub Im picking up for another $200. Mind you, Im building this entire project from money I get out of scrapping metal I get from people. Hence the name of the rig...Scrap Daddy! So basically this rig will cost me nothing out of pocket. In the next week or so I will start to have pics for you guys but I will probably start a new thread.

Thank god that aint the truth! Hey, need opinions. Should I build my rig out of a Cherokee chassis and cut the back half off to turn it into a truck style tubed bed, or use the CJ7 frame that needs a little touching up and the YJ tub??
