LMAO, cherokee I will admit my antics with the other rig Im building were a bit much but you gotta look at it from my view. I wanted a Rubicon since day one and it was what I originally intended to get but I just found the TJ down the street so I settled. Now that I have driven it around a while I am ready to get what I really want. And Im gonna try to find a stocker because Im gonna build it up right. RE 4.5" long arm w/ triangulted rear, 36" Iroks, Rancho RS9000 shocks, Bead locks. I'll take my time because if Im going to get a newer vehicle like that I want it to be nicer. So if I do show up to this trip in the Rubicon it will very likely be stock. And by the way Taz...I wouldnt miss this one!

Don't count me out yet either. Put the deposit on the new place and 1st payment is falling smoothly into place. Come on Jeep gods, I usually don't ask for much

Well, I found a 00' TJ with 5.5" RE long arms, 37's, full cage, D44 front w/ OX locker, Currie 9" rear w/ Detroit, and heres the kicker...a 5.7L Hemi. He wants $13,700 for it but Im probably gonna offer 13K when I sell my TJ and work from there. Unless of course I can by some miracle find a Rubi for like 10K but thats a long shot. I guess we'll really see what happens when my TJ is gone and I am forced to get a new one.

Went wheeling today, getting ready for the trip. All ready to go.

I also scored a 8.8 rear axle for free. It will not be ready for the trip, but it is my new project. It will have new gears, axle shafts, selectable locker and triangulted suspension. I am stoked about this project. A few guys around here are ready to help me build this axle.

Sweet man, thats a great axle to build. A super easy swap too. Im putting one in a YJ for a buddy. You gonna run an ARB, OX, Ected, what? The stock shafts are pretty stong (31 spline) but your gonna replace them right off the bat anyway?

Not sure what I am going to do yet. I may leave the axle shafts alone and get everything else up and going first. This project will be done as funds allow.

As the funds allow!? Hmmm, so your not going to do it like most other Jeep projects then I seeYour supposed to just spend all the money you have and then a little more and worry about where its comming from afterwards.

Have been doing that for the last year or so...it is starting to catch up with me.

So I have to back down a bit. I was also thinking about making my own control arms as well.

For sure. Ya know, if your gonna go through that trouble Taz you might as well build long arms. It isnt that much more expensive at all and it kinda makes sense to do it if your gonna take on a project like that.

By the way, update on the Hemi TJ Im lookin at buying. The rear is a Currie 9" axle so its pretty pricey/nice but it turns out the combination of 37's, hemi poer, and a locker arent too good. The guy split 2 detroit lockers down the case in the same axle. So I have an extra D60 laying around w/ limited slip and perfect Jeep width I would probably swap in. You guys think I should buy this thing or just buy a stock Rubi for now (I will spend about the same either way).

Heres a link to the beast:

Let me know what ya think!

I have thought about that as well. 8.8 axle, long arms and belly up are next on the hit list.

To your situation..If you like the way the 2000 is built then buy it. Think of it this way, if you get a Rubicon that is stock, you will still spend 1100-2000 in tires, wheels, and other little mods.

If it were me, I would get the 2000 with the hemi and wheel the piss out of it.

but that is just me.

Thats what Im leaning towards since its built exactly with the stuff Id add to the Rubi. But the busted rear locker concerns me...thats a lot of force to split a Detroit locker. Like I said though, I have a perfect D60 to swap in w ls. All it would need is gears and brackets welded on. Then I woulc probably sell the Currie axle for a decent price or jsut put ls in that. Im not sure how I would deal with that.

Ok so it is getting closer to the date, and I am still not sure how many folks are going to be at this trip.

GRN I know you are in, and I am in.

Cherokee and Crafty are maybe

Who else?

Oh yea, this is the one by the way. Much better price for em right now. I cant afford a Rubicon while Im in college I dont think. You can thank my dad for talkin me out of that one but this TJ is VERY nice anyway. And its basically built like a rubi anyway, little better imo. All it needs is 4:1 and Id be set.
