Live there! My jeep is out of commision for a while again, but there is a club here called bangin bones that has some designated trails. All ranging from scenic to hardcore. If you can get ahold of some old BLM maps you can find 100s of ghost towns to find and explore. Just becareful if you decide to go trail blazing there are tons unmarked mining shafts. And remember stay out and stay alive. (abandon mines).

Elko is on Hwy 50 IIRC....long promoted as "The Loneliest Road in America"...A sign outside of Austin (due west a ways from Elko) says "Next gas 167 miles" ....

if you connect with locals you'll probably get a ton of useful information....I've only driven through that way a few times....from the "Mountains of Confusion" to "the Biggest Little City in the World".

Take plenty of everything with you.
