Get out of trail free card

Sooo...im thinking about some things i should equip my 91 stock yj with for when I'm off roading...i wish i had mods but can't afford them lol. I have a foldable shovel/ho/pick that i keep with me..tow strap, tow hooks, etc...Im thinking about rigging up a little thing using some a 2x4, a hinge, and some nails...now hear me out!
If i take a 2x4 and start a bunch of nails in it (nail heads up of course) and i can then feed it under my tires when I'm stuck...anyone ever done anything like this? it won't puncture the tires due to the fact that there are too many nails so theres enough surface area and it should help with traction 10 fold...any thoughts?

You could use some metal grate to accomplish the same thing and it won't break the first time you attempt to use it. You could even put a hinge on two small sections of grate as well. Something like a 10" wide x 18" hinged to open up to 3 feet when you need it. Dig a hole up to the slipping wheel, insert grate, hopefully drive out.

Oh... also a come-a-long or hi-lift jack can both be used as a very slow manual powered winch.

I've actually decided I'm just going to keep snow chains in my trunk, and then ill stake the top out a few feet ahead of the jeep and feed the rest underneath...which should work fine. my dad told me that a come a long is really only good for like 2000 lbs...and whats 2000 lbs when your stuck in mud...have you been successful with one?

I've never used one but a friend of mine has several times.
What he does is leaves it in first gear 4 low, gets out and starts ratcheting.
They're definitely bulky as well, but better than nothing.
