Greenridge MD April 21st

Next thursday (April 21st) I'll be heading up to Greenridge for a final ride on the trail tentative it's closing on the 24th. It's spring break for me. Hoping maybe someone else or a few others will wanna come up with me. Should be a nice day (hopefully) with the weather finally getting to the mid 60s and hopefully staying there!

I don't think I can do Thursday, but tentatively plan on taking Friday off from work. I would either leave on Thursday night or Friday morning. Probably Friday morning so I don't have to deal with traffic.

I've also posted this on the local Jeepers forum. Hopefully we'll get some more interest!

Currently the weather forecast calls for rain Friday night and Saturday.

For those interested, here is some additional information from Green Ridge State Forest web site:

Quote:
Camping
Green Ridge offers 100 designated primitive campsites located throughout 46,000 acres. Group sites as well as sites located along the Potomac River and along the off-road vehicle trail are available. Pets are permitted in the forest on a leash. A service charge of $10 per night for up to six people and $1 for each additional person is required. Camping permits may be obtained from Green Ridge State Forest headquarters.

Camping is year round. You will need to self register outside of the office after closing. Many of the dirt roads do not get plowed, so be aware of road conditions before starting back into the forest.
Quote:
Off-Road Vehicles
Currently the Poplar Lick Savage River State Forest in Garrett County and Chandler Trails in the Pocomoke State Forest, in Worcester County will remain closed. To accommodate existing reservations previously secured by riders and campers, the Green Ridge State Forest trail will open April 1 and remain open through April 23; the trail will then close on April 24,and remain closed pending the results of the upcoming forest certification audit.

Right now we have 4 total jeeps going! And yes, looks like rain at night, we're planning on meeting around noon! Not that a little rain is gonna stop us.

I just called the Green Ridge park office to get more information on fees.

The ORV permit costs $15. You will need to provide your VIN, driver's license number, and make/year/model of vehicle. Permit is good until 24 April, which is when the trail closes.

The permit can be obtained from the park office, which is open between 0830 and 1530.

An update to this post. I called again and received clarification on this fee. As it turns out, it only applies to non-licensed vehicles (ATVs, dirt bikes, trailered Jeeps, etc.). Therefore, there is no fee if you plan on driving your Jeep to the park.

I'll probably be up there on friday and saturday. Im going camping in Little Orleans with some friends. Ill be on a red honda crf250r with #888 plates on it, just got my offroad sticker this morning. Hopefully it doesnt rain too bad. If its raining too much I might take the jeep. Im really bummed out about GR closing, i've been riding up there for about 6 years now. If theyre worried about erosion they should just raise the price for the permit so they can afford to maintain the trails.

O, and watch where youre driving in the rocky section. There are some big drain pipes on the uphill section and they have some sharp metal pieces sticking up through the dirt. Got a flat tire from it once.

There will be Jeepers there from Thursday night until late Saturday, and you're welcome to join us. It was posted on another forum that, as of yesterday, conditions are very muddy, and we are supposed to get more rain through Saturday.

How was everyones trip? I drove up early on Friday and pretty much hung out in my friends rv all day. Saturday turned out pretty nice luckily. I went around the trail a few times in the morning on my dirtbike. Saw a few jeepers, not sure if they're on this forum. It was about 70 degrees and sunny all day, it just started raining a few hours ago.

Can you post the pics? I was really interested in going to green ridge if/when it opens up again. Anyone know of anywhere else near there that has good trails that is open?

Looks like you had fun. I sure hope they open it back up. I prefer to go when its warmer to prevent soft top damage. I already have several greenridge pinstripes.
