Had some fun this afternoon!!

Well, it was a last minute thing, so only two of us went out, but we sure had some fun! I took my Jeep, and was accompanied by a buddy with a full size Chevy 1/2 ton with 35's. We found a trail out by Calico, but I have no idea what it's called. There are alot of little trail markers, all painted silver. Just piles of rocks, really, but markers nonetheless. Is there anyone local to this area(SO CAL) that has an idea where we were? I'm including a couple of pics. My buddy's Chevy is still out there, he broke a tie-rod and we couldn't get it fixed. I'm so impressed with my Jeep's abilities!! There were times when I figured it would take a miracle to get through, but she did great. I had a good spotter, so that really helped, too. I can't believe that with a 6 cyl, and just 31" tires I was able to out-crawl someone with a v-8 and 35's. Luck, maybe, but I attribute it to patience and picking the right line....not to mention having trust in your spotter!! Anyways, just wanted to spread my enthusiam for the day!! Hope everyone had a good weekend!!!

PICS TO FOLLOW.......................

Here's one of me and my girl. She's a 2005 X. Unfortunatley she's got the D35 in the rear so I can't get too wild, but I can still have SOME fun!! There aren't any action/flexing shots since I had the camera and was doing all the driving. My spotter takes horrible pics so I don't let him near my camera!

Here's my redneck buddy, Casey with the Chevy 1/2 ton. It's rolling on 35's, but it still won't go as far in the rocks as my little Jeep on 31's will!!

All right, last one for now. This is my spotter standing next to a drop-off that marked the end of the road for us. You can see Calico Ghost Town down to the bottom right, and of course, you can see the word CALICO written on the mountain side. Has anyone else been here? It's a LONG trail with lots of big rocks and steep mountainsides.

I'm definately going to have to invest in some skid plates!! I had all kinds of other plans to spend $ on her, but she really needs skid plates worse than anything else right now. I'm also going to have to get different tires, too. These BFG AT's are great for the road and minor crawling, but they lack a little traction when getting into the steeper stuff. I just can't justify getting rid of these yet, though. They only have 3,500 miles on them. Oh well, I'll save up for the better tires while I wear these out.

Did you try airing down at all? From the pics it looks like they are pretty full. I loved my AT's.

No, I didn't air down. I don't have a compressor yet, so I didn't have any way of airing them back up for the ride back to base. Since it's about a 20 mile trip back, I didn't want to take the chance of having tire problems on the highway. I know it would have helped to have aired down, and I'm looking around for an affordable compressor. Sure had a good time!

You got that Captain Morgan thing going on in your siggy......

Last two times I've gone out I realized how important airing down is. Get a portable air compressor at Costco. Fifty bucks. You won't regret it.
