And finally, here are the pics from my end.
Brandans Yota did very well considering it never had fully functional 4WD for the entire trip.

These are all him at the middle rock garden. At one point he had only one tire on the groundThat was the closest anyone got to rolling I think though

2WD muddin

Crafty also made it through all of the middle rock garden

After the first go through this mud I ended up going through in 2WD and reverse as well, lol.

Oops...

Redneck engineering to the rescue! Best part is, it matches my TJ. Hooray for color coordination and Hi-Lift handles(thanks to everyone for helpin me get it fixed up!)

I will leave you with this, the top of trail 29. One of the best views on Black Mountain, and at night, this spot is beyond amazing.

Im all pictured out for now. I can get more up later.

Ok, ok, just for you Tony. Sorry, they are just all grouped together. Here are a few of you.

You can see in this pic the small tree that Taz decided to catch his bumper on and bend his fender pretty good.

Tony got to test his winch and rock sliders. Apparently this rock did number to his driver side slider.

To be honest, I dont think we caught any pictures of Sherman (slf). Im lookin through our camera and I dont see any of him on the gardens, jsut shots of the whole gang. Sorry about that Sherman

Figured out what Im gonna do about my steering. The problem was I have to have my rear axle fixed back up so I dont have the $$ to spend on most HD steering kits. After some searching and digging I have found my solution. Im going to start by getting a stock tie rod from a ZJ with a V8. The TRE's and tire rod itself are 38% larger than stock TJ stuff, plus it will bolt right up. Now, that alone would fix my bent tie rod problem pretty well but I dont want to take any chances of that problem happening again since it seems like my tie rod liked to gravitate towards the rocks. To get it up and out of the way Im going to drill out my knuckles and tack in a reversal sleeve on both sides.
Goferit Products!
This is going to give my otk steering so all my stuff will be out of the way of potential damage, I'll have better angles on the steering components causing a closer to stock feel, and it will be a hell of a lot stronger in the chance that it does kiss the rocks again.
Best part is, Im gonna get the benefits for about $70 and a little bit of work. First things first though, the rear axle is getting put back together in a few days. Once I get it back the steering will quickly follow. After all said and done I'll let ya all know how it turned out.

That sounds like a great plan, and you can keep the redneck tie rod as a trail back up.

I have been doing some reading as well and there is a way to convert the HD steering I have, to high steer as well. I just need to have the nads to covert it all.

But you are right, you had a homing device on your tie rod with the rocks...but it was fine once it was sleeved.

Keep us posted on the progress. I may hit the junk yard. I also have a spare set up D30 Knuckles I can play with.

Haha, I really dont think you need otk with that set up but it does provide better angles. If nothing else it will give your steering a tighter feel. I think I may need to make a small build thread for my new TJ. I know its already mostly built but I just scored a set of KOZ rocker guards with tube step for $75 and I have a few other mods Im going to do that you dont see a lot of people doing. Heres a few teaser links...
Off Road Store: 16X7 - 16X9 Staun Internal Bead Lock, Staun Internal Beadlocks, SBLN1679
Koz Off Road, Inc - Catalog
SM465 Transmission Packages
Rugged Ridge D30 Differential Skid Plate
Rokmen - TJ/LJ Gas Tank Skid Plate
There are a few things I plan to get done in the next year or so. I have a couple other things in mind but thats the bulk of it. Whatcha think?

Looks like the natrual next list of things you would want to get on that rig.

I have some catching up to do.

Yea, I didnt like my AW4 trans so much out at Harlan. It jsut didnt seem to pull like it should. I missed my manual trans. So once I get some $$ again I am deff. swapping it back out for a SM465. Novak-adapters makes a bolt in version with their adapters for a Jeep. Has a 6.55:1 first gearThat makes me happy. Either that or they also make a bolt in SM420 with an even lower 1st gear of 7.05:1. Guess I'll make that decision when I come to it. And Im actually contemplating if I want to get the Staun beadlocks or if Id rather have my rubicon wheels covnerted to beadlocks. I think it looks sweet when the stock wheels are turned into beadlocks (theres a piture on google). That kinda what I was leaning towards but Im not sure on that one yet either. If I can find a good place to score a rubicon transfer case Im gonna get that too but Im not set on that one yet.

Look out ladies and gentlemen, some one has the jeep bug and it is bitting him hard... I see Rubicon transfer cases around here for 500-1000. I was thinking about getting one to bolt up to the Ford 8.8 I now have. It has 3.73 gears, so i don't have to change my gears up front. WHOO HOO...just need to get the right brackets and swap it out...

That will take some time since I am cashless for a good long while. So if anyone wants to make donations to the Tazmann Jeep fund, it would be greatly appreciated.

I have had that bug for a LOOONG time. Hell, Im 20 and already on my 3rd Jeep now. Matter a fact, I have a farm of those bugs in my back yard.Sadly, Im mostly cashless right now too. I have a little to get it fixed and fix my steering but thats about it. Yea, the 8.8 is a good swap, even better you dont need to regear. What do you think about turning my Rubi wheels into beadlocks?

You know me, I like the different stuff...so if you have a way to turn the stock rubi wheels into beadlocks...do it....they will look different. Those staun beadlocks are really expensive. 250 a wheel...my buddy has been buying them for over a year...one wheel at a time.

Small world. I am from Cranks Creek which is located in Harlan County. Born in 1949, worked in the mines but have lived in Ct. for over 40 years and traveled around quite a bit in between.

When I get it back Im throwin the seals for the front ARB in and doing my OTK steering (I went and got the tie rod/drag link fromt he scrap yard yesterday). Just gotta order the sleeves for that. Also got my rocker guards, painted them, and bolted em up. Should be wheelin again shortly

Got the verdict from Unlimited Offroad today. The ENTIRE rear axle needs to be rebuilt! I had no idea it was that bad when I looked at it. I didnt really rip it all apart but I at least thought the ring and pinion survived. So it looks like I know have to replace ring/pinion, carrier bearings, axle bearings/retainers/etc., master install kit, seal housing assembly for ARB, plus labor for it all. Im lookin at $849 all together according to Jason (head hancho). He is a great and I trust him to take care of it for. Im kinda cryin the blues right now because thats a lot for a college kid to swing just to get his rig back on the road but gotta do whats gotta be done. I just keep thinkin about the stuff I coulda bought with that money...beadlocks, maybe a cage, or a even my 36's if I were to sell my 34's too. No pint in whinein I guess. By the way, if anyone wants to donate to the Jeffs Broke Ass Fund pm me for details

Dude, that sucks, but at least you got it home and was able to have a home mechanic be able to repair it. Just think you could have been stuck somewhere in KY or IN.

That is a pretty good price for all that work, I wish I had a few dimes to send to you, but I also need donations to the BROKE ASS FUND.

So lets start the BROKE ASS, HELP ME FIX MY JUNK, SO I CAN GO BACK TO HARLAN FUND. I will set up a paypal account that people can make donations to.

You still have a better built rig that I got...so quit your crying...

Yea, Im just thankful it happened where it did. Im thinking it was only a matter of time too because it happened just drivin down the road like I said. O well, thus is the lifestyle of a Jeep owner. I appreciate your potential generosity had you possesed the funds, lol. Id help you out as well if I somehow had the $$ but it looks like we are in the same boat. All the guys at this shop seem to eb really cool and very down to earth. They broke it all down with me and really do have some very fair prices. The price sounded steep at first but then I realized my entire rear axle is being rebuilt...its not such a bad price in that light. Matter a fact, Im probably gonna be taking my TJ there when Im ready to get the cage installed too. It is built pretty well I must say. I love it and I dont regret buying it. Shit happens, Ive learned to deal. On the note of spending money I think I decided Im gonna run either coil overs or air shocks at all corners next summer too. So my list continues to build...
