How do you pass on a tight trail?

Sorry for such a newb question. I ride dirt bikes on tight trails and envision I'd take my Jeep to some as well (it's on order). I occasionally encounter an oncoming vehicle which I can pass, but it's tight. One side might be a rock wall and the other a drop off, for example. So how do you pass in a Jeep? I assume one vehicle needs to back up or down the trail until they find a clearing. Sounds sketchy, depending on the terrain. Maybe backing down the trail isn't as bad as I'm thinking it would be.
