How to get experience?

Hey all! Don't have a Jeep yet, but hoping to get a used JKU once I make my move to Spokane (currently in Vancouver, Canada). My jeep will be my DD but I do want to go off-roading/mudding as much as I can. My question is how does one get started? Is it best that I just find a trail and learn on-the-fly? Or are there lessons offered by Jeep or other groups?

Check with the local jeep or 4x4 club and/or a local 4x4 park. Around here, KCMO, the local club and the local 4x4 park offer beginners' classes. There are also schools in some states, but they will be a lot more expensive than one done by a local club or park. You might also ask your question in the Washington section: http://www.wranglerforum.com/f57/.

Always go with a few other people too so if you get stuck they can yank you out, I've had to pull my fair share of people out at 2am because they went by themselves. It's not a fun experience
