I just did the Land Between the Lakes this weekend and put in my hotel reservation and registered for Gateway to the Cumberlands in October. Everybody at the Jeep Jamboree this weekend highly recommended Gateway to the Cumberlands.
All our friends that have run the Land between the Lakes enjoyed it (when it doesn't rain) but it seems my workload gets in the way at that time of the year.
We stayed at the KOA last time, I may stay there again. Wasn't a bad ride to the meeting spot.
We were the only crazy ones to ride in during the cold morning with no doors, but sure was nice when it warmed up by 10!
I have a reservation at the Hamptons. I plan to run the Bestop element doors since I don't think it will be too cold and would like the extra visibility. Going to be running some additional armor underneath, and may move to the 3" TF springs and TF tuned Fox shocks for it, and EVO shock relocation and skids front and rear so I have just a little more articulation for the rocks.
Haven't decided yet, but I don't want to get into anything too difficult since my Jeep is a daily driver even though it is well built. I'm looking at Red Bird (4-5), Commando (5), and Bridge Rock (5-6) right now. The river crossing with Bridge Rock has me a little concerned though with the stock air intake and since I plan to be running the Bestop element doors. I should also be able to handle Wurser (6-7), but I don't want to push it and I'm not so sure about my abilities to handle it.
We'll do "Heckarewe"(part of Bridge Rock) on Friday and Red Bird on Saturday. The Meadors always has a surprise for us on Red Bird.
Two Jeeps SC and one Michigan. Lined up we're Red, White & Blue.
Commando is a very good day in the woods too.
Wurser is an excellent trail and due to tornado damage on Airplane, that was the reason one group had to come down Wurser. Yes a XJ did roll but had a full cage and all four passengers wore seat harness'es. Driver also shut off key when he knew it was going over. Every year there is always something that happens on Wurser. If it's dry it's great, if it rains it's a pain in the arse. As far as who ran Nuttin Funner at LBL, that is usually my trail but due to work I was unable to be there. Last year on NF, we lost count on winching Jeeps, in one two hundred yard section due to the rain on day one. After 40 or so winchings my Warn burnt out. It can be a 6-7 when wet. But back to Gateway. Last year we were the largest Jamboree in the Nation. It will be bigger this year! Hope to see you guys there! By the way....I'm the Trail Guide for Wurser. Jeep On!
So has anyone done wurser? Is it really as bad as the brochure makes it sound?
I would love to try it, but since it's my DD I don't want to risk any damage.
I know there is always a risk, but I like to keep it to a minimum!
They never do! I took video and pictures last time I went. In my mind it was extremely steep and crazy, in the pictures and video, it was nothing!
I kept telling my friends, no, it was way worse than than, I swear!!
I appreciate it, I figured we would be good, but was a little nervous as it's my DD.
I have done Gateway twice, first year did Red Bird and bridge rock. Second year did waterfall and bridge rock again. I dont think there is a bad trail to do at this jamboree. I suggest being there early for inspection on Thursday. The guides will be there, you can ask around about each trail a lot will depend on your jeep. Here is my video from bridge rock the first year. Pat does a great job getting you up the trickiest part of the trail.

Signed up for Gateway a couple of weeks ago but now I'm wondering if I made a mistake.
You see, my 2014 JK is stock (6 speed, 3.73 rear-end, rock rails, P255x17).
Still pristine so I would rather not ding up the body.
Are there decent trails for us stockers?

Think I'm ready for Gateway to the Cumberlands. Ended up going to a Teraflex 4" long arm and 37's on bead locks with some Rock Hard 4x4 armor underneath. Also went with Ten Factory chromoly axle shafts front and rear along with Adams drive shafts, new ball joints, front truss, etc...
