John Bull in 4H... dur.

So, yeah. I got back yesterday and I guess I should start one of my usual picture soaked threads with wheelin' galore... but I don't have my usual millions of pictures. My regular copilot was home and he's the wheeling photographer.

You'll all have to live with my descriptions and some landscape pictures.....

We started the day heading out to GoldMountain which seems to be the best way to JohBull. I hadn't done JohnBull and I was pretty nervous. Unfortunately I ran into a problem halfway up Gold and couldn't get into 4low. I'd just checked it the week before to make sure everything was fine but I guess I screwed up because it just refused to engage.

After some fiddling we thought it was fixed and the group convinced me not to turn around. Too bad it wasn't fixed and I did GoldMountain and half of JohnBull in 4h. Made for a stressful day. I couldn't understand why I was having such a bitch of a time and the dang thing sounded awful. Guess I hadn't wheeled enough to realize it was in high and not low. Eventually though, I had to get into low after I got caught up in a tough area.

Our leader bravely climbed under my jeepity jeep (with me still in the driver's seat scary) and disconnected the linkage then manually popped my boy into low. Thank god because my head was about to explode and I suspect my tranny was about to start sweating from the heat.

Well, anyways, I haven't got many pictures other than when we were at lunch and when we were sitting...... waiting for one of the rigs in another group to fix his tie rod. We had 16 or more in our group and there were at least two other groups as big on the trail. It was like being on the 91 at rush hour..... but there sure were a lot of pretty jeeps. Walking the line was almost as fun as wheeling the trail.

Big Bear is really an amazing place to wheel, even if you're just looking for the views.

Very nice... I can't wait to wheel that part of the country.

One day.

I've decided to start with armor, Scout, don't even know what that thing is. I have a nick under my door where I got so lucky dropping down hard. Almost a bad day. And I left a chunk of my diff on the rocks, so armor is my plan.

Thanks guys, the place is just amazing. Reminds me of being back in Colorado.

Armor is always a good idea.

The pics are great. You guys are really blessed to have such a beautiful place to wheel.

This picture is from Butler Peak. Almost 8400 feet.

And down in one of the valleys...

I've never seen a real joshua tree before, they're huge. (at least I think they're joshua trees)

They look like something out of Dr.Seuss. I need to go back and take a picture standing next to them so you can see how big they were. I was so surprised.

Welcome back Tiny. We all missed you. It looks like you had a blast at BB last weekend. It's funny....I was going to go to Big Bear last weekend with a couple of buddies. There's an Italian restaurant there in old town. I think it's called Paolini's or something to that effect. And then there's "The Pub" which is one of my favorite bars in BB. Anyways, plans fell through as they sometimes do and I didn't find myself there. Bummer. Oh well, I'll live vicariously through your pics!! Glad to have you back.

They're all over the base out here. And they're protected.

Damn - looks like a great trip. Better than helping a friend move in the 100 degree heat!

Let me know when you are ready for armor, we can meet up for a beer and chat about it. I can lend a hand installing too. Easy enough to do, but some of it is easier with two people.
