Hey guys, I was curious to see if anyone in the area was interested in making a weekend jeep run on the Kiamichi Trail? I have never been on this trail but from the information I have gathered it should take somewhere in the 7 to 9 hour range to complete. The trail starts in Clayton, OK and ends near Mena, AR. It is rated between a 3 and 6 (out of 10) on the difficulty scale and supposedly can be completed in a stock rig. The plan is to set up a weekend in November. If anyone is interested, or even has some advice (since I only have some light wheeling experience) let me know!

Howdy Boris.....

I have tackled/cleared quite a few miles of the K-trail over the past couple of months. My research read that the trail gets increasingly difficult from East to West. Not knowing that originally, my 1st trip started out from the Clayton trailhead(furthest west) and going slow, I cleared everything in a stocker without an issue... Of course its all about line selection and wheeling experience. This last weekend we started the K-trail at the Mena entrance and cleared everything up to the 3 sticks monument. That section was easy, but enjoyable and once the foliage drops from the canopy the views should be spectacular.

Our next trip down the K-trail will be Nov 4th, 5th & 6th, not certain on where we will be camping, but I'm sure it'll be somewhere primitive in the area. We have 3 Jeeps committed so far, possibly 4....

Last time I did K trial was early September, started at Clayton and went to the Indian highway. On that trip I was with a stock wrangler that was sitting low with steel bumpers/winch. Trail was much tighter and more washed out then when I did it a couple of years ago.

@Coletrane I'll check with my wife on that date, I'm wheeling Saturday thru Monday the weekend before so I'm not she'll buy off on it :)

Thanks guys, I will be starting on the Clayton end and working East to Mena so that's great info! Unfortunately I think that the 4th is a bit soon after the move, and I won't be able to take off Monday .
P.S. That's awesome Blue!

FYI: https://www.facebook.com/events/238644163261491/

March 4 – March 5

This is a family oriented 2 day K Trail run. Clayton, OK to Mena, AR.
We'll depart from Clayton, OK early Saturday morning (exact time TBD) and have a long day of trails, then we'll camp overnight (location TBD.) More wheeling Sunday then finish in Mena, AR.

EDIT: there will be a point to head back on Saturday for those that wish to do 1 day.

There are camping spots near Clayton for those that wish to camp Friday night.

This trail can be done by mildly modified rigs and even some stock Jeeps. However parts of this trail are overgrown and you will get scratches.

Full details will be posted as we get closer to the date.
Also, several of us have experience with the section from Clayton to the Indian highway, but not the last part to Mena. Anyone with experience on that section is encouraged to attend :)
