Need Info on UWHARRIE in NORTH CAROLINA

New Jeep owner, less than two months. I'm looking to take a trip over to Uwharrie National Forest park and do some driving and camping. Waiting for this incredible Carolina heat to break a bit before going, but figured getting info now will get me a head start on the fall. Anyone that has been with tips on best places to camp, drive, and don't miss highlights. Just starting to look... Would love to camp on a stream/lake/river if there is one. Thanks guys!!!

I've been planning a camping trip to Uwharrie for sometime in late Sept or early Oct (once it cools off) with my neighbor. I have not been there before, but know there are a couple camp grounds in the park. When I find out more information I will share it you.

Yup, I'm in Raleigh.

For GCB, I believe there are three campgrounds in Uwharrie:
  1. Arrowhead Campground
  2. Badin Lake Campground
  3. West Morris Campground

I've never been to these, but from what I understand there is lake access at Arrowhead and Badin. Not sure about West Morris. West Morris seems to be the smallest and most primitive of the three.

We are leaning towards Arrowhead because it has electric hookups (we have a popup camper) and it has good reviews on RV Park Reviews. Perhaps someone else on Wrangler Forums has some experience with these campgrounds?

Now we just have to pick a date. Will probably do a weekend.

Yeah we are gonna leave at about 4-5am Saturday morning, wheel all-day, camp, then wheel till about 11-12 Sunday and cruise on home, and its either gonna be Sept 24th, Oct 1st, or Oct 8th, depends on the weather, its not advisable to go if it hasn't rained recently, that makes for a very dusty time, cause there's always a holes on 4 wheelers or dirtbikes that bust the trails open and pass you, dusting you out, and the gravel roads leading to the trails get dusty quick, but its very fun, I love it, went last year with open diffs and 31's and had no probs

I'm gonna hijack the thread a second- if you stay on the easy trails at Uwharrie do you need a 2nd vehicle for possible recovery? I want to go with just the Jeep, hubby says we have to take the truck in case we get stuck. I just wanna do fun easy stuff next week, nothing major, just getting a feel for the place.

You can do 90% of the trails there in stock form, if there is a hard obstacle, there's always a bypass, just stay off "Daniel", the first half is easy, when you get to what feels like the top of the world on the Daniel trail, turn around

http://www.eldoradooutpost.com/ here's where you get your trail pass, and its 1/2 mile from the trailhead, and they have a grill, gas and an air compressor for your tires

I have never been to URE with the jeep before but have with quads. The Arrowhead campground is great power water and a great bath house.

That you will, I would atleast bring a strap and if you can have a buddy bring his rig just in case. But its fun!! My friend went with his liberty renegade, it's lifted 2 inches and has 29 durtracs. He even went on Daniels (hardest trail)

Also sent you a PM.

We actually went last week. My stock handled it just fine, the hardest we did was trail 90. It was shaky for a while but hubby was driving and he managed to get through. I only drove 89, but I pulled it off. Stay out of the water pit, hubby got the Dodge stuck in it and MY jeep pulled him out. I now own a "Dodge Recovery Vehicle". He's never gonna live it down.

The most fun at URE is Daniel, Dickey Bell, and the "cut". I'll have to look at the map to tell you what numbers they are. Camping is great on the trails, but only when it cools off a bit, otherwise, stay close to Badin so you can go swimming to cool off. if y'all want to get a WF trip together, post up.

In the UNF, there is a single campsite that looks over Falls Reservoir. It's called Spivey's Bluff. It sits just behind a ~100ft rock face on the side of the reservoir, hence the name. It's not listed on the map but its all the way at the back of the main road. Pretty amazing view. Not sure the requirements to camp there.

The trails are mostly suitable for stock jeeps, other than the occasional tall rock sticking out of the trail or the rock drop downs. STAY OFF DANIEL! Daniel is for experienced crawlers only and will eat a stocker. Otherwise, you should be fine.

Just got back from URE with the wife's mall crawler. Went with another friend that just picked up his new jeep. Both are JKU's they performed very well and we had a blast. Cant wait to go back. Lets go Gamecocks!
