New to Jeep, looking to take on trails

I've had my jeep for about a week and really want to take her on some trails. I have zero off road experience and looking to get my feet wet.

1. Are there any important things/tips I should know before taking her off road?

2. I am in the Grand Rapids, Michigan area and am going to Boyne and Gaylord this weekend, are there any good trails in those areas?

Thanks

Yes. Stick to mall crawling until you're equipped right and don't go out alone, it could cost you dearly! Join a local club so they can teach you how not to destroy your new ride or the trails, or get hurt. It won't take long.Read all you can here and other forums also. Good luck and be patient. It's the trip..Not the destination! Oh, and get out your BIG checkbook. I'm approaching $55K and still going strong

I too am a new owner having purchased the Rubicon 10th Anniversary. I have several off road locations near my home and there are Jeep Club Members there. I am planning on going out early next week but am also signed up for the 15th Moab Jeep Jamboree in October and I am attending with my rubicon as is, all stock! I want to start off slow and get the experience with help from senior members. I know there are many of you who have already experience Moab so was wondering if I am on the right track for my first ever Jamboree?
