Hi,

I am new to off-roading and wanted to head over to Uwharrie when I get a chance. Hopefully line my trip up with one of the nearby clubs or anyone else to give me some pointers.

I have a stock 2003 TJ I6 with D30/D35 and 30" tires. Which of the trails should I attempt to better understand my Jeep before getting over my head too fast. I do not want to get stuck on my first outting (we will save that for the 2nd one ).

I was thinking about Falls Dam and Wolf Den/Slab pile.

I was looking at the Uwharrie maps and think that may be a good trip to get away with my son for a weekend. I haven't done much off roading either and this looks like a great place to start. My four wheeling has mostly been snow events or beach trips

Uwharrie is pretty tame and a great place to get started. You should be fine running just about all of the trails as long as it is dry. For certain you can do:

Falls Dam
Dickey Bell
Wolf Den
Slabpile
Dutch John

You can also do most of Rocky Mountain Loop. You will want to avoid it between Slabpile and Kodak as that section has gotten pretty rough. While it is doable for stockers it is probably a little much for you at this point.

You could also see a good bit of Daniel as well. You will want to avoid the entrance on 555 to the top of the mountain. The best way for you would be to go in at the double parking lot on 573 (I think that is the right name for that road) on RML towards Daniel and then all the way to the top. At the top you will want to turn around and come back the way you came. You won't have the ground clearance on the ledge above the S-turn and the section right before it.
