Ocotillo Wells

Took the Rubi out to Ocotillo Wells this last weekend for the second time in a row and I have a question; does anyone else have issues when it comes to sand dunes? The Jeep absolutely did not want to climb any hills if there were sand involved. Tried 4 low with and without the lockers, and still got wheel hop and got nowhere! Is there a trick to climbing dunes? Please help!!

On the other hand, we did have an awesome time, I was very impressed with some climbs we did accomplish on some pretty steep grades...this is a new hobby I am trying out, and so far I love it! Should have bought a Jeep years ago! Thanks for the help.

Well I wheel my jeep in Utah around St. George with sand as well. I found that jeeps for the most part are geared lower for better climbing and crawling and not so much on the sand. You pretty much need more speed on the sand. Not saying that they can't do it, just takes a little more effort. Sand rails and of the like are better on the beaches. lol

Yeah that's kinda what I figured, they are definitely lacking in the power department...i'm hoping I can change that soon! I'll stick with the KTM 450 in the sand...

I run out to Glamis and can take the dunes no problem. 4 high, 10 psi in all tires. Works amazing out there and we have a blast.
