Pros and cons to offroading with a standard

Just got a jeep and I was wondering the pros and cons of going off road. Considering I just learned how to drive a standard a couple days ago I am wondering how a standard performs better while offroading. Hope I get some responses.

Are you talking about a straight drive?

I mean like mudding trails. And like just off road in general.

Auto a lot easier for rock crawling and thats what I have now. I am a fan of manual though they are more fun and when you have a friend behind you in a mud hole its a lot easier to sling mud all over them. Also when stuck in sand a manual can rock out of it on some cases when auto cant.

When I shopped for a jeep all I wanted was a standard trans. After wheeling for a couple years I think an auto might be better for "crawling" up the rocks. I've been driving clutch for 36 years and can feather it as I need to, but slowly applying the gas with an auto trans would make it easier. Having said that, I think it just comes to personal preference. Everyone will have their own opinion and their own type of off roading. Enjoy! And welcome to the club!

When your starter cakes up with mud and dies on the trail, you can be pull-started with a manual.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure I won't be doing any rock climbing any time soon. There are just some good mud trails around where I live. And I bet cause I just started driving a standard that of course I'm gonna find it easier to say a auto could just gun it through a area of mud where as in a standard you have to switch gears before even being able to go.
