Rubicon Trail Little Sluice Removal!

Just saw this and figured I needed to share. Apparently, they are going to be filling in Little Sluice on the Rubicon trail in Tahoe, CA with gravel. This link has info and how we can try and stop it URGENT! Little Sluice to be altered this Friday. - Pirate4x4.Com

Well its one of the most well known and most challenging trail in the United states, and each year thousands if not more offroad enthusiasts travel from all around the united states to concur the trail I just wanted to let people familiar with the trail know about this so they have a chance to try and change it.

THIS IS SUPPOSED TO HAPPEN 28 SEPT!!!! FRIDAY!!!!!!

I sent my email in. I just went to The Rubicon 24-27 Aug and had a blast. I took the bypass to Little sluice, but want to someday attempt it when my TJ is ready for it.

If this work goes through... I will NEVER have the chance to challenge Little Sluice.

Please get info off the thread posted above and send your emails in to save the iconic Little Sluice from permanent destruction.... if you wheel and ever dreamed of doing The Rubicon..... DO THIS!!!!! PLEASE!!!!

THANKS......

I know the trail.

Try posting this in the trail section here instead of the JK section.

Are they filling it to make access to stranded riders better? What's the reason?

This has been in the works for a couple years now.... there are several answers to your question.... depending on who answers.

They want to blow apart the boulders and bring in TONS of rock via helicopter and FILL IT IN!!!

The Bypass to the Little Sluice is works for everyone that doesn't challenge Little Sluice.....

From what I hear, many of the large boulders in the obstacle were added sometime in the early 90s by "someone". Because this is a public "road" the state legislature feels they should first try to remove the larger obsticles in the "road" to bring it back to a more natural state.
Now this is dumb on a few levels.
#1 its not a road. Its a trail in a national (state?) forest. No amount of back fill will turn it into a road by layman's standards.
#2 Its not like the crack was filled up with TVs and washing machines as obsticles, they are giant chunks of granite moved from a few feet away. About as natural as it can get.
#3 What if these rocks were always there or fell into the chasm by natural means (avalanche), would the state rule to remove them then?

Dear California. You are broke. Dont spend money you dont have doing retarded things like this.

The money is already being spent. Here is a picture of what the turn at the top of the big sluice looks like now. The little sluice will look like this in a few days. [picture from 4-wheel drive & sport utility magazine's web site]

I did a 1900 mile round trip to run the Rubicon Trail a few years ago. Man am I glad I got to do it before it was graded. Of all the things California needs to spend money on, this one was on the very bottom of the list.

WAT? The reason for "fixing" it was to bring it back to a more natural state, so they go and essentially turn it into a dirt road? California, you are retarded.

And California is horribly in debt. They don't have any money, but they're spending money on road projects that no one wants them to do.

Yea we're a little bass ackwards here, but what can we do, our voters here rather legalize marijuana than bring our budget to a balance, it's cool though Arizona here I come! Don't get me wrong, I love California and it will always be my home state, I just can't stay in it while our deficit keeps growing and no one wants to fix it. And I'm also transferring to a university in Az.

Use the Bypasses and you should be totally fine. Just drive smart and have a spotter in front of you. Having a Rubicon with the lockers you should have no problem
