Some of us met up with some of the Hearland 4x4 group to ride some trails at Land Between the Lakes near Grand Rivers Kentucky yesterday... Here's some pics. We didn't do anything serious, just flung some mud around and checked out the trails around the lakes, the scenery was gorgeous, and we even saw a deer (being second in line helps ) Met some very nice folks and had a great, dusty, muddy day!
Ageless Stranger and his dad, Kate and her OBM, Warlock and his wife, and my gang awaiting the arrival of the others...
Tr3yngler got yelled at three times not to Chadwick it...
Tony and AS giving us the thumbs up! (I need better photography skills..)
This guy, sorry I didn't get his name, we called him pigpen after this... Is the only one who got stuck. I'm very grateful Trey decided against it... thank you honey....
There weren't a lot of photo opportunities. It was a really relaxing (albeit dusty) day just doing some expedition riding and exploring the area around the lake. We put on about 35 miles. Photobucket album
We rode access roads through the woods, stopped at the lake in a few places to cool off and rinse off some of the dust. Next time we're taking swimming suits.
Had lunch by the lake and had a good time.
The most excitement we had all day was when Brian "PigPen" (his new nickname) decided to try a mud hole and about scared a poor frog (who was having a relaxing day at the spa until a Jeep jumped into the mud bath) clear to death.
Red threw a strap on him and gave him a tug.
Small group, all really nice people. I don't know why they let ME tag along, but I had a good time.
I wish I had known what you guys looked like I was there and just driving around on Sat and Sun. Since it's only about a 30 min drive from the house I have also been there on Mon, Tue and am going back as soon as it gets light in the moring. lol The BP in Dover is wondering why I have been filling up every morning. lol As far as the deer go I keep having to run them out of my yard. Of course I plan on going this weekend too.
Well don't ya know, when you run across a whole gaggle of Jeeps you just drive right up and say "hey"? We were all over the place, but not at Turkey bay, just the trails around the place there.
You know what Kate? I completely forgot to check out your double knobbed, triple chrome plated flammywhammers that you have ziptied to the Rubi. I meant to give those a look.
The funny part about "PigPen" hitting that mud hole was that the next time we stopped everyone behind him was muddy from the tree branches rubbing it off his Jeep and onto theirs.
It WAS funny!
We're driving along and WHAP! a branch hits me in the face and chest and I'm covered in it. I think that's when I started calling him PigPen and telling OBM that we should make him go to the back of the line.
A couple of times I thought I felt a rain drop on my arm and looked down and it was more mud. I'm STILL trying to get it out of the interior of my Jeep. It hit the upper sides, bounced off of the roll bars and wedged itself into nooks and crannies that are giving me fits trying to clean. :banghead:
LOL!
OBM = On Board Mechanic (you met him this weekend!)
Something I made up a LONG time ago in a sig line. "The best accessory I have on my rig is my OBM"
If anyone knows of a trail that looks like this in NC PLEASE TELL ME!!![/QUOTE]
If you think that trail is cool you should have seen the one just before it. Trees down and a little bit of mud and tight narrow spaces. Even one pretty decent hill to climb. We really had a good time.
First weekend in August. I'm going to WI today for a week. Barrie is going to RC this coming weekend (a week from now) and then driving to KY. The tentative plan is to wheel both days. You should check out THIS website for rules and print the registration form out ahead of time to make it easier for you. $15 for a three day pass. I think Barrie is planning to stay at a hotel in Murray for the weekend. We will most likely wheel until dark (you can't go after dark) on both days. When I talked to him on the phone he said he wanted to wheel and also do a lot of BSing because it was so far to come he wanted to be able to spend time talking with folks. I'll get in touch with you the week before if you would like. Feel free to PM me your phone #s so I can call you later about it.
