tiny, Ccain, and Unlimited: Anza Borrego

Yesterday tiny, Ccain, and I (along with my son Chris) spent the day in the Anza Borrego desert. You couldn't ask for a better day. The weather was perfect and the company was even better. We ran the Pinion mountain trail and took side trips down Olla wash and Sandstone canyon. We had a great day and did some fun exploring. My son Chris took lots of pictures, as did Cain and tiny. I'll post some more later, but for now, here's a taste:

tiny and cain follow Unlimited into the desert...

Just like it says. Cain and I met Unlimited for a trip down into Anza Borrego, the desert south of our home base here in SoCal. Since it's October the weather was just about perfect for some desert wheeling.

We wheeled a trail we'd done before, slipped on through the Squeeze, then spent a couple hours driving through washes and off shoots of the main trail. What an amazing place.

Not too far ahead of where Unlimited is in that last picture, the pass narrowed enough that we had to put our wheels on either side of the canyon. What a great day.

Unlimited, his son and I did just a little bit of climbing. I stopped when we got to a 10 foot wall inside the cavern... That didn't seem to stop those two!

Sorry, Brian, I didn't even see that you'd started a thread when I posted mine. My bad. Merged them up so we can all be together.

Thanks for that comment nvr. There are a lot of nicely built Jeeps on this board, so I appreciate the complement. There are still a lot of things left on my wish list, but I'll get to them one of these days. I'm proud of the fact that it is my daily driver and still allows me to do the things I want to do with it. I promised my wife that I would not use household money for mods, so I've had to prioritize and save for each piece I've bolted on. It has taken me 4 years to get to where it is now and I've done all the wrenching myself. My Jeep is truly being built on a budget, so I spend a lot of time researching and looking for deals.

Here are a few pics my son took:

A very beautiful day - through a very dirty windshield:

One of the Gate Keepers:

Through the windshield (notice the tire tracks on the side of the wall)

From the other side:

Yes, we drove through it!:

tiny, looking very small:

Like I said, it was a great day, and I got to share it with three great people. I was a little overwhelmed by the fact that I was the only person in the group not named Chris, but it turned out Ok. The scenery was awesome and Cain kept us entertained over the radio for most of the run. At one point I had to stop because I was laughing so hard.

I can't wait to do it again......

Well thank you Brian. We should have taken more advantage of you being odd man out, but it didn't seem right. And Cain on the radio... I had to take it once or twice. I was afraid you were going to crash (I was afraid I was going to crash too).

... oh hey... find that snake?
