Trails around Boone, Blowing Rock NC

Is anyone aware of any trails or just fun back roads around the Blowing Rock area of NC?

I'm not really prepared for anything real serious this weekend but courteous if there was a fun and/or scenic ride that my wife and I would enjoy.

There are lots of USFS roads on the Globe community in the way up to Boone (look for Burke County on your maps)

I found a thread about Richard Road. Anyone familiar with this road. There are some pictures of challenging areas. I would be solo and don't have much in the way of recovery gear, would this be a problem for this road?

I talked to some locals today and found that Richland Road would not be a good choice today with the amount of ice. Did not get to go but I will be better prepared next time.

subscribed - my family and i will be in leatherwood this coming weekend (Jan 18-19) and if anyone is going to go to richland let me know. I have little kids and they have yet to be in the water.

Also leatherwood connects up to 2 fire trails - anyone have information regarding those.

I am going to be in The area again on the 14th and 15th if anyone wants to meet up for a trail ride.

Note: I don't have proper recovery gear so I don't plan on tackling any rough areas. Just looking for a nice place to ride with minimal challenges for this one.

Did you get to try the Leatherwood trails and if so, how are they?
