I would rather make the drive to Hidden Falls over Gilmer any day. Just not a huge fan of Gilmer.. its ok, but Hidden Falls is way better. IMHO

2hr drive vs 4hr drive. Hidden Falls is better, 4 hrs 1way is painful, though.

From where I live my times were 2.5 hrs to Gilmer and 3.5 hrs to Hidden Falls.. for me, I would drive the extra hour..

If Hidden Falls is that much better, maybe I'll put that next on my list, then.

Lone star jeep club is hosting the Offroading 101 class. Join the forum and check it out. I'll no out of town this weekend but perhaps we should try for Hidden Falls towards the end of September.

Do you have a time in mind? I need to get some dirt on the tires but don't feel like making the drive to BP, HFCS, or Gilmer.

10ish works. Know where it's at and that's about it. Have been in there once but didn't play too much as it was a bit muddy for my taste but don't think that will be a problem Saturday.

Other than the banks of the creek and the pond, there's no mud out there whatsoever.

There is a whole other side that I got really muddy in. Are you sure you've explored the whole thing?

I was unaware of the area you mention. More to explore next time it appears.

To me, the difference between Gilmer and Hidden Falls is that you can make gilmer a (long) day trip, but to make HF worthwhile, you pretty much have to commit to a weekend trip.
