This is killing me.

We just picked up our 4th Jeep in April and slapped some MTs on but nadda on the lift right now. I would love to go with everyone but I'd be driving home with no flares guaranteed. URE is a blast, be careful to all going.

Take them off for the trip!

You'd be fine, ride in the middle of the pack. If you were to be stopped just tell them you need to report a fender flare theft!

I'm not sure. I mean I'd have no flares at all. It would probably have the same affect that your tires have with flares but not having them might be enough to get pulled. Would look pretty good but odd.

Ok, kinda new to the jeep thing so here goes a silly question. I have a TJ, no lift, 31x10.5s. Haven't taken it off road yet other than the beach (I know, weak right?). Really want to ride sat or sun but don't want to kill my new toy just yet. Is taking the flares off really an option? I can do it pretty quick it seems. Ideas...

You do not need flares. If you have side markers they should be replaced for safety sake. If the side markers incorporate turn signals like the TJ, then they must be replaced. Most LEO's won't bother unless you are somewhere you are not supposed to be and doing something you shouldn't be doing, but the inspectors will care when it comes to having it reinspected. (if they happen to notice yours is missing)

I am going to Smitty's when I need new tires and go up to 35's. I am still trying to figure out where to put the side markers. The turn signals in front I will do the JK conversion like jumelton has done.

I believe you may have missed where I said "if the inspector notices" part.

as far as the brake light, NC General Statute says you only have to have 1 working brake light. A missing or burnt out brake light is not probable cause to stop a car as so ruled by the NC Supreme Court.

Not trying to have a peeing match with you, just trying to make sure fellow Jeepers are covered. I can honestly say that I would not stop a car because of the lack of side markers nor side marking turn signals. I do know that with all the collisions that I investigate, I will def. have side markers on my flat fenders when I do it. (merely as a safety precaution for me and my family)

(I am also not running a 3rd brake light, I will add one in the near future though, for safety sake, just today someone almost rear ended me while I was slowing to make a right turn .)
And one last note, as far as the state inspections go, they will fail you for the brake light missing, IF you get someone who knows Jeeps or catches the age and realizes the lamp is missing the same as if the lamp was burnt out. If they did not it could mean a huge fine for the shop and the "attendant" doing the inspection.
State Inspection is a completely seperate entity than General Statute.

I hope I was able to explain this adequately I am for certain not trying to have a di@& measuring contest with ya lol

Man I wish I was able to go. This is my weekend to work. I am hoping we can make URE before summer is over. Maybe we can get a trip sometime around the 1st weekend in August. My wife and I are both off for a long stretch that weekend. like 4 days in a row.
