Hey just wanted to join in on this thread. I just joined the forum, been active on other forums for a few years but for some reason never this one. I just graduated NCSU in December, should have been on here back when I was living in Raleigh bored on weekends. But anyway I'm living in Chapel Hill now at my parents for now.
I have a 02 tj on 35's that I try to wheel when I can and would want to join up on a local run some time. Around here I've only really been to Page road a few years back but its juts all mud which I'm sick of dealing with.
BTW Jumelton I'm assuming is Justin, this is Brian with the green sahara, I just had a SYE put in my jeep and Brendan at Performance Innovations back in Wilmington shortened an XJ shaft for me and checked it for balance on the lathe and it seems to be working good, and was super cheap. If you get back down there much and you haven't had it done yet he may be able to help you out.

New trails, Nash county near Castalia! Buddy of mine showed me around some power line trails that went on and on and on, intermixed with plenty of tight in forest trails! There were several deep mud crosses that I needed some back up on to try so we had to bypass, so next time I need some help!

Is it off of 58? Past the universal leaf tobacco plant?

Maybe, first entry was off to the right before you get to Castalia, then we got on a second set of trails past an L&L gas station, it was a blast and I almost buried my rig 3-4 times!

Ok I know about where you are talking. I've spent about 3 years of my life at that tobacco plant in the past few years. I've always wanted to go fishing there off of boddie mill pond road

Anyone heading to the Uwharrie this coming Saturday or any plans for legal wheeling nearby? One of my boys wants to go get the Jeep dirty.

Going to Asheville this weekend, anybody have recommendations for where to take the Jeep? Planning on driving the Blueridge Parkway- hopefully it doesn't get too rainy so we can take the top off

Take it to every bar in town. First suggestion, Jack of the Wood. Second, Lexington Avenue Brewing. Enjoy!

Definitely worth it, much longer than TW, little less ruts but plenty of long sketchy mud pits where you need some backup! Cool thing to is the tons of narrow trails in thick woods you can get into!

couple great trails in Haywood Co. (next county over from Buncombe)

Hurricane Creek (I 40 about the 5-6 mile marker) it is a dirt rode off of the west bound lane and is not marked, it gets gnarly back in there though.

12 Mile and Max Patch. (same exit) I think the number is 7. It is the Harmen Den exit. Max Patch is a Bald on the Appalachian Trail and there is a day or two worth of logging roads to explore.

Cataloochee to see the Elk.

You can google all the above and get the specific's. I am from the area have not wheeled out there in a few years since being transfer to the Triangle.

Never been offroading there but I LOVE Asheville, once you get used to "mountain hippies" and explore the town you will love it.

Brews:
Wicked Weed
Wedge Brewery
Thirsty Monk

Eats:
Rezzaz
Cu'rate
Red Stag (in Grand Bohemian)
The Admiral

Jessica's Dad lives in Asheville. We take weekend trips there all the time. The 4 hour drive sucks but, the mountain drives are worth it.

Dude, looks sick! When the rain stops I'm getting my top and doors off, and my Body Armor tube doors ASAP. I've got the rear section of the Safari Straps sitting here waiting to go on also, I love the look they give! Do you have the Safari straps overhead or no? If not I'd suggest doing the Spiderweb Shade, it looks awesome and is worth its weight in gold for blocking those hot sun rays.
