Vegas wheeling

Well, it was GREAT! We ran the Bowl Trail and the Hawkins Trail. I had a few Oh My's and a few OH SH!T's and no body damage. I went on an intermediate trail run that several optional obstacles having open diff's I chose to do two of the four they had. The other two a triple water fall and one they call the S Turn. The two i did were water falls but going down instead of going up. The Hawkins trail was definitely more fun than the Bowl Trail. There were more jeeps, buggies, and morhp's than I've ever seen at one gathering.
They had some vendors there, some with jeeps some not. There was even a magazine editor/photographer there. This was an easy easy deal for them since SEMA wrapped up on friday. They had a raffle which I donated to but did not win anything from. Thats just 3 hours of anticipation and when done you realize you could have left at 6PM instead of 9PM.

The FJ's owner is a recent convert and they did not let him forget that he is lower than a worm.

That was friday night's group and by saturday it had grown to 3-4 x that.

Yeah, would have good to meet you guys. There was a rig from Olympic that had the Absolute Off-Raod sticker in the front window.

Yup, That's Eric that owns Olympic. He takes all of his jeeps to Joe to have the work done on them. He was trying to get us to hang out for the weekend.

Next year we'll get SEMA and Wheelin all together.

Ha, yes, I tried, this is a great place to wheel! There were 4 Jeeps in our group, non of us had ever attended. We asked some of the guys hanging around what runs should we run? Well it turns out the guy is the VV4W president Darrell Wade, super guy, naturally we wanted some challenging stuff to conquer so after our "consultation" we decided on Hawkins trail by way of the Matterhorn for Friday. Darrell said it would be an all day run with some side runs as time allowed. After we conquered the Matterhorn we went over to the "S" turn and went up it, Darrell said not many get to run it this way and he thought it was more difficult, and yes, after getting up the rock ledge, up the wall and getting my LJ to slide around the "S" I got through! (sitting on 37's helped) A lot of the guys had trouble getting over the ledge and scraped thier tops and rear corners on the side wall. A nice long day of weeling, a Pinzour? broke an axle and my friend smashed his pan, exhaust and dinged his front drive shaft, some other scrapes and bruises topped the damage with no casualties.

So the brave souls we are we decided to go with Darrell on a "night run"! We left after dark for Bronco falls, bowl, shitter trail and some other stuff I don't even know what they call! After ariving at the trail myself and my 2 buddies looked around and I said "what have we gotten ourselfs into!" All the other rigs were trail hardened buggies and wheelers, I would say they all had been rolled a time or two! Well, with Darrell leading off we went, up and over stuff we really couldn't see, (the trail had a lower rating at night, after seeing it in the daytime, I see why!) sucked to the seat for every obsticle, what a blast! Bronco falls looked straight up, however with good traction up and over we went! Through the bowl, up and over walls, down through tippy off camber holes, real fun! About 1/2 through my friend's Rubicon rearend started making noise, a casualty, dead spider gears. The 2 Ruby's that were with me left, so I manned up and continued with the "night run". All the guys and gals (2 gals in a Samari, well started out as a Samari) just destroyed all the rocks in thier path, (litterally) bouncing off everything in thier way. I will say, I need rock lights, I couldn't see a thing around my Jeep, I just kept tiptoing, it didn't fall over so I was good! We ran for about another hour, some close calls but no rollovers.

Saturday we decided on thier Rock bottom trail, through a long "V" notch and a sharp right turn up and out, some needed rocks stacked, but a technical twisty fun trail followed. We stopped for lunch around some sand dunes where some of the rigs played a while then we left for the Bronco falls/bowl area. After a while on the shitter trail a Grand Cherokee's steering box decided to let go, broke off the bolts holding it to the frame so at that time the trail leader concluded the "official" run. We hung out a while and later ran the area in the daylight with a couple rock rigs, we had a great time and went to camp for the BBQ.

There was a huge raffle after dinner with goodies flying all over the place. The weather was awsome, the scenery was awsome and the VV4W are awsome, can't wait to go back!

You know I invested $60 and all I got was one of those flying hats and an NGK bag. But they had $17k in some great prizes.

Yes, I too will go back. Hopefully locked and armored by then.

We were with the President, he also told us we might have been the 1st! I'm waiting for a friend to send me the pics, I don't know how to post them but I'll send them to Tiny to see if she can. I had my tire 6' off the ground in the turn! Great photo op!

Logandale is a great place, about 250 miles for me. I'll be going again soon!
