Driving/camping holiday - Melbourne to Adelaide

Me and Mrs decided it was time for a camping trip in the Jeep. We knew where we would start, and where we'd finish, but we didn't know how we'd get there, or how long we would take.

First up, our usual camping spot in the Grampians, and hit some trails with a coupla buddies, one in a Landcruiser ute and another on a dirt bike. No-one got stuck, but there were a few hairy moments, and on the way up one hill we got the front left wheel of the Jeep about a foot and a half off the ground (no photos of that though..)

Then me and the mrs disappeared off into the mountains into the National park, and picked out a nice spot in the camp site there. Saw a few lizards, a snake or two and a lot of 'roos and wallabies, and took in some Aboriginal cave art.

Off to our next spot (Mt Gambier), via some back roads and spoiled ourselves at a caravan park with some hot showers and real toilets. Checked out a few nearby caves, then it was further up the coast to a spot called Kingston S.E., where we hit the beach, and drove about 10km along until we found a nice spot to set up the tent.
Found if you park the Jeep on a slight downward slope the bonnet makes a good table.

Next stop, the Barossa Valley, and hit up some wineries and gourmet food places, then on to our destination: Adelaide, to meet some family and celebrate a 1st birthday.
Two nights there, then a non stop trip home. 9 hours in the Jeep and it's all over. Happy and impressed with the Jeep for such a long trip, it went quickly and was comfortable.

Total kilometres travelled: about 2000
Price spent on fuel: lots

Looks like an awesome trip... I'm heading down your way in two weeks but I will be on the east coast. Doing Sidney to whitsundays. Have always wanted to go to Australia. Who knows, maybe I'll get some wheeling in down there too...

There are a few aussies on here including a Queenslander or two (Seacomms for one, IIRC). I'm sure if you hit up some Jeep clubs they'd be happy to take a tourist along for a drive.

Sydney - Whitsundays will be a great trip, some awesome places along there, and the weather will be perfect. I'm jealous.

Glad to hear, I wasn't sure if I would be catching any of the rainy season... Not really sure about the weather patterns down there....I know it is the beginning of spring or summer...

Sand looks like a blast to drive in! I live in indiana so theres not much for dunes except man made terrain parks, which im assuming isnt the same as getting to drive down a coastline for miles and then camp wherever you want! Looks awesome!
