Well I decided to meet up with a few fun lovin Massholes from another forum that I am on to go wheelin up in Mass today. I will post up more pics once they post theirs but all I have right now are the ones my GF took (I apologise in advance since it is mostly of my Jeep)
On about the 5th attempt my rear slide to the side and back into a boulder pretty much crushing the side of my bumper. I was pretty happy with the bumper since it protected my corner and didnt really phase me all that much since all it means is that I need to move a bit faster to install the new swing out tire carrier that I have sitting in my kitchen.
Here is a pic of the newly acquired trail badge
After that happen most everyone thought that I was going to pull around and started walking back to their rigs. However I decided to give it one last attempt esp since I had already fubar'd the bumper. I needed something to show for it! Here is a crappy vid. (Kinda wish I had a pic of the Jeep airborne though)
To be honest I don't have much to compair them to. I purchased the jeep with the same wheel/tire combo and when I replaced them last year I just went with the same tires.
On ice they are about the same as any other tire w/o studs ....no traction. However I am pretty pleased with the way they handle the snow. I have read a bit where peope say that they have had issues with snow clogging up the tread but they have worked great for me. I was pretty suprised that even with them being 11.5" wide that they still cut through pretty nice. Granted it can be a little hairy in RWD but once you toss it in 4hi its night and day. Obviously just drive smart and there aren't any isues.
Woulda been nice to have you out as well. As it was there was only 2 "wrangler"...me and a CJ. However it was def a bit harder of a trail than the organizerhad originally said. You would have had a tuff time esp on the way down with bald tires.
Its looking like a monthly wheelin trip is in the works and I will def keep everyone posted once the next one is scheduled.
I have 2 terribly worthless vehicles for this part of the country. My Lotus is meant for curves, we have none. My Jeep is meant for trails, we have none.
I need a 700hp hot rod meant for straight asphalt, we have lots of that.
Having said that 2 weeks ago we had snow/ice on the roads to the extent where my 4HI got its first legitimate use. I was pleased with the performance of the BFG's. but my idea of "snow" is about 1 foot less than the northern states' version.
Yup OME suspension with JKS 1.25" BL and bombproof 1" ML.
But if I have read correct there are some real nice places in texas to go wheelin. I know its a big state but there has to be something close to you. Even if it means running over some tumble weeds and a cactus or two.
It was in Belchertown, which looks like it's about an hour west of Worcester. I just looked on Google Maps, and it's 1:27 outside of Needham.
if that is in Belchertown, unless it is private property that is most likely an illegal wheeling spot. Hate to say it, but there are few enough legal spots that will be taken away if people don't follow the laws on where to wheel.
