Just got back from 4 days on The Rubicon!

Rick, Joe, Wes and I headed to The Rubicon at 7am on Friday, 24 Aug from N. Reno. We made it to Loon Lake in about 2-3 hours, I think...

From the slabs at Loon...

we proceeded for about 30 minutes when Wes blew the front shaft ( lost a cap on the H Yoke ) and the RUBICOPS came up behind us... 3 Sheriffs in Rubicons that patrol the trail.... WHAT A DREAM JOB!!!!

We swapped in the spare shaft and made it through Little Sluice, Sluice Box, Big Sluice... over the Bridge..., past The Springs and to our campsite over by the graves by 8:30 pm.

Rick tested the mud and well.... my little Red TJ helped him out....

Spent Saturday being lazy, drinkin beer, swimming and hiking. Saturday night we headed to the end of the trail on the slabs and went up a waterfall to a pile of boulders that Wes decided to challenge. His XJ was impressive!

Sunday did the Stone Cabin and bathtubs.

Monday, we left camp at 10:30am and drove out through Cadillac.

We stopped for lunch at the Blue Agave and headed back to Reno.... GREAT trip and loved every minute of it!!!

here is a link to all 92 pics....

Looks like you guys had a blast! Any chance you'll be posting some of the vids? I would love to be closer to your neck of the woods so I could wheel the Rubicon. I live in Central Kansas (for now), so that's quite a haul to Northern Cali. I'll just live vicariously through your pics and videos!

We all work together and usually plan our annual trips about 6 months in advance to ensure we all get the time off.

You should plan a trip!!!

Did you see any bears coming through your camp? I've been following the bear thread on Pirate and they seem pretty active this year.

(I'll be camping at Loon Lake in 72 hours.)

Actually, the bears ( according to Dave, the Springs Caretaker ) The bears are keeping to the lower sections ( like near the Springs and Dirty Dozen )

They are getting ballsy as well... Dave and his family and friends were sitting around the campfire ( 6-8 people ).... music playing talking, kids playing etc....

About 15 feet away through the trees came a MAMA bear and TWO cubs for some apple pie ( no joke ) that was cooling by the back steps.

No incident occurred, but Dave said they are getting harder and harder to scare off these days.....seems like they don't care anymore..

This mirrors what people are saying on Pirate. The bear(s) will show up to take your food, then head off without confronting the humans. There is even video posted of--you guessed it--a Mama and her two cubs coming through one camp site during the night in August. Mom actually climbed into one of the parked Jeeps to rummage around, then jumped back out empty handed; the cubs just waited nearby while she did so. After that, they all headed off into the trees.

Just to clarify.... the sighting I mentioned happen at the Springs to the caretaker, Dave and friends.... not at a campsite...

The one you reference is a separate incident at a campsite... not at the caretakers site in the Springs.

WOW!!! Even on video..... lol She doesn't seem scared either.... now THAT is SCARY!!! We heard about that... CRAZY, but we camp WAY up by the graves at the base of Cadillac.... nobody had reported seeing MAMA and her babies up that far.

Dave, at the springs, said that he has seen them a few times at the Springs, rummaging and even said they have found ways into one of the cabins.. not sure which one.
